Hamish Blake said his entire outlook on life changed after interviewing Virgin co-founder Richard Branson.

The 42-year-old radio star appeared on the ABC series The Assembly She recently said that speaking to the 74-year-old billionaire business magnate was a life-changing experience.

He recalled one occasion when he was stunned by Richard’s response to a producer who asked him for $1,000 during a 2010 interview on Hamish & Andy.

Hamish explained that he was chatting to Richard on the comedy show he was hosting with co-star Andy Lee when producer Jack Post asked the billionaire for some money.

“Jack basically said, ‘You’re a billionaire. Can we go down to the ATM and give me a thousand dollars? It’s nothing to you, but it’ll make my month,'” Hamish said.

‘(Richard) said, “I’ll tell you what: there’s one thing I’d give you all my money for,” and Jack said, “Really?” and (Richard) said, “Your age.”

Hamish went on to say that Jack was broke and 22 at the time, while Richard was rich and 60, but the Virgin co-founder insisted he would love Jack’s life.

“We said, ‘What do you mean by that?’ and he said, ‘I’d rather be broke and 22 than be a multimillionaire and 68,’ or whatever he was at the time,” Hamish explained.

And he added: “It’s true. I think it’s like that for all of us. As we get older, we think: ‘Okay, money is a tool in life, a tool that can certainly eliminate some bad situations and discomfort, but it’s not happiness.'”

“It doesn’t compare to the thrill of living and all the best things are free. I think about that all the time.

“That always stuck with me, this idea that we have something immediately available to us, so in the future we would give all our material possessions for it.”
