New details have emerged about a motorcyclist who lost control at high speed and crashed into a brick ledge of a house in a horrific accident that claimed the life of his partner.
Shane Edward Norris, 32, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Ashlee Kathleen Giacomini, 31, at a hearing at Perth’s Stirling Gardens Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Norris would only speak to confirm his name and to indicate how he pleaded to the charge, Western Australia reported.
Court documents revealed Norris was travelling twice the speed limit, at more than 100km/h, when he hit a speed bump on Pilgrim Way in Hamilton Hill, south-west of Perth, on October 20 last year.
Norris lost control and hit a curb before crashing into a brick wall that threw the couple off the motorcycle.
Ms Giacomini, who was sitting behind Norris, was thrown onto the front lawn of a nearby property.
She suffered traumatic brain injuries and was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, where she never regained consciousness and died 11 days later.
The court heard that Norris admitted during a police interview that he was speeding at the time of the crash.

Norris also admitted in his statement to police that he did not have a valid driver’s license, that he had smoked cannabis that morning and that he had taken methamphetamine the night before.
Subsequent blood sample results revealed that both drugs were in his system.
