Hamilton crash: Video inside car moments before accident that claimed four lives

Date:

Chilling video has emerged from the car involved in a horror attack that killed a woman and three teenagers.

The vehicle veered off the Wannon-Nigretta Falls Road in Bochara, 200 miles west of Melbourne, and crashed into a tree in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Footage taken from the car earlier that evening shows the vehicle hurtling along a narrow country road as rap music blares.

There’s a young man’s voice asking, “What speed are we doing?”

‘130’, a female replies.

‘Sweet’, a man responds.

The vehicle veered off the Wannon-Nigretta Falls Road in Bochara, 200 miles west of Melbourne, and crashed into a tree in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It was posted on Snapchat in the hours before the deadly impact that killed mother Alicia Montebello, 31, Year 10 students Joshua Elmes, Lucus Garzoli and 14-year-old Meghan Fox.

It remains unclear who was behind the wheel of the red Toyota Corolla when it crashed on the remote stretch of road.

An unnamed 17-year-old girl – the sole survivor of the crash – was taken to hospital with critical injuries to her upper body.

They were all from the town of Hamilton, Victoria, 7 miles from the crash site.

Victoria’s Assistant Commissioner of Police, Glenn Weir, said on Monday that an examination of the crash reconstruction showed the car was traveling at “much more than 100 km/h”.

“To get that speed on that road at that time of day, any time really, is just incomprehensible to me,” Mr Weir told ABC radio.

He further revealed that police believe a number of passengers were not wearing seatbelts, while specialist investigators were still trying to determine who was behind the wheel.

It comes after parents of victim Joshua Elmes revealed they warned their son not to get in the car with a woman who allegedly drove dangerously only last year.

Matthew Elmes, 46, and Lee Ann Elmes, 41, went to police but were told they “couldn’t do anything” without evidence, police said. Announce sun.

It is unclear whether that was the same woman behind the wheel on Saturday.

The couple shared how on Monday Joshua’s younger brother Aaron, 12, found a note he had written on his laptop outlining what he wanted to achieve over the next 10 years.

He wanted to join the ADF and fly fighter jets after spending the past three years as a cadet at Monivae College.

“He said he wanted to get married and have children, he even named the person he wanted to marry,” Ms Elmes said.

The heartbroken mother said she harbored no hatred for whoever was driving the car.

‘I harbor no hatred; I hold no unforgiveness towards anyone who drove or didn’t drive or caused them to drive at a high speed,” she said.

“It happened and we can’t bring them back. It’s easy to blame someone, but why?’

Meghan Fox was the last victim to be identified.

Her sister, Kayla Dean, took to social media to pay her respects.

Rest in peace my precious angel forever in my heart. Life won’t be the same without your crazy personality or that sweet heart,” she wrote on Instagram.

“You were the best little sister I could wish for. I love you so much Meghan. My heart hurts so much knowing you’re not right behind me.”

Kayla also contacted the families of those who died with her sister on Saturday.

“To all the families affected by this terrible situation, my heart goes out to you, it certainly isn’t easy. I know Josh, Lucas and Meghan touched so many lives and were loved by all,” she wrote.

Lucus had been a car enthusiast, posting photos of exciting vehicles on his social media page.

He was also a proud member of the 314 Army Cadet Unit from Warrnambool along with his mate Joshua Elmes who was also tragically killed in the crash.

Joshu’s father Matthew Elmes acknowledged his son’s death by sharing a tribute the teen posted just two weeks ago on May 15 for his father’s birthday.

“Congratulations to the most amazing dad. I love you and hope you have a great day. You deserve it,” Joshua captioned a series of photos.

The Facebook post featured selfies of father and son trying out different camera filters, pictures of Joshua as a baby and a family walk with his younger siblings.

Mr. Elmes said that despite trying to be a good father, he felt like he had “failed” Josh.

“I’m holding a post from my son,” the grieving father remarked.

“I’ve tried to be a good father to you, Josh…however, I feel like I’ve let you down…I’ll see you again one day when the silver cord is cut and the golden bowl is broken; when the pitcher is broken at the well and the wheel is broken at the well.’

Her grieving brother Jaryd posted a touching tribute to his “beautiful sister” on Sunday.

“Rest in peace, my beautiful sister was taken far too soon, you were very loved. Forever with us love you sister.’

Emergency services managed to tow the car from the crime scene around noon on Sunday, the roof having collapsed and the bonnet collapsed from the impact.

On the inside of the Toyota Corolla were messages with the tragic words ‘drive safe’ and ‘love people, help people’.

Police hope CCTV footage can shed light on when the accident occurred and how long it took for the accident to be noticed and the alarm raised.

Police believe the driver of the car lost control before hitting a tree.

“Two women and two men died at the scene,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“Another woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews said his thoughts were with the victims’ families and friends.

“This will be an incredibly difficult time for those families and friends, and people who love those caught up in this, and we send our best wishes in what will be an incredibly challenging time,” he said.

“People need to be assured that there will be a full investigation…so we can try to understand what happened here.”

So far this year, 128 people have died on Victoria’s roads, compared to 96 in the same period last year.
