The Lionsgate film, starring a largely unknown cast, had its world premiere on Monday with Halle looking fantastic in a tight, sparkly dress.
Never Let Go follows a mother (Halle) and her twin sons who have suffered the torment of an evil spirit for many years.
However, when one of the boys begins to doubt the existence of evil, the sacred bond of family is broken, leading to a dangerous fight for survival.
Never Let Go will have a second premiere at Fantastic Fest on Thursday, September 14, before hitting theaters on Friday.
The film is Halle’s first in the horror genre since 2004’s Gothika, in which she starred alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Penelope Cruz.
Halle told the horror multimedia company Damn, disgusting Why he empathizes with his character and why he wanted to make the film.
She said: ‘“If you really love your kids, you’re tough sometimes, but there’s a fine line between mental and physical abuse. And my character, to her credit, is a different kind of mother trying to raise kids in a very particular circumstance, and it’s that tough love that keeps them alive. That’s how I always saw her.”

On what drew her to the project, Halle said: “This is one of my favorite genres of movies, but this one felt different to me. There are some things that are familiar to me, but you’ve never seen a black mother with her two black children in the middle of the woods tied to a house with a rope, you know?
“And all the generational trauma that comes with that. The spiritual and religious aspects of it. All of that made it something new to me and something interesting in that space, so that’s what made me want to dive back into the genre.”

Halle revealed that she had “never” been intentional about her relationships before and that she felt “relaxed” before dating the musician.

Van has a son, a teenager named Drake, while Halle has a daughter, Nahla, 16, and a son, Maceo, 10, with her third husband, Olivier Martinez.
