Halle Berry claimed she spent $200,000 trying to “work with” her ex Olivier Martinez on co-parenting their 10-year-old son Maceo, in shocking new court documents filed Tuesday.
The Oscar winner, 58, married Martinez, 58, in 2013, the same year they welcomed Maceo, and they split in 2016. Their divorce was finalized seven years later in August 2023, and the couple have been embroiled in a bitter custody dispute ever since.
In documents obtained by US weekly magazine Berry claims he has spent more than $200,000 on legal fees, including a “voluntary” $80,000 contribution toward Martinez’s own legal expenses.
She claimed Martinez is supported by child support payments, so she “has to go to work.” She alleges he objected to paying for a home visit with her therapist during Berry’s time off before changing his mind.
She claims Martinez “delayed” court-ordered co-parenting therapy “despite several follow-ups.”

In the documents, she wrote: “I have made every effort to work with Olivier, communicate with him, and involve him in the decision-making process regarding our son (Maceo) in an amicable manner. Olivier has refused to co-parent and communicate with me in a child-centered manner; he has been oppositional and unwavering on all important matters involving Maceo.”
The documents also include text messages between the two, in which Berry writes to Martinez: “I am so sorry we are at odds. I had higher hopes for us. I always hoped we would do better for Maceo and work together like we did before Van (Hunt, her partner) came along.”
“Everything has gone to shit since then. We used to try to get along for Maceos’ sake, now you don’t even want to try and I’ve tried, Olivier… you know I have.
‘However, you’re still angry and I don’t know why. We need to let go of all that anger and do better. Maceo deserves it. I’m tired of being called a liar, I’m tired of fighting with you and I’m quitting. If you want this negativity to continue, it’s your fault, but I don’t want to be a part of it… We need to be together now more than ever. However we face it, we need to face it together, not by fighting. It’s just my opinion, but you’ll make your decision.’
Martinez responded: ‘The only way to work together is to work your way. That’s not working together. You’re playing dirty like you always did, not putting Maceo’s best interest first, but karma comes, don’t worry.’

This comes two weeks after a new report offered more insight into her ongoing custody drama with her ex Martinez.

Berry claimed Martinez is causing “detrimental harm” to her son with her latest motion to delay an upcoming custody hearing.
Martinez, on the other hand, claimed last week that Berry is taking advantage of him by not allowing him time to prepare and by “trying to get an immediate hearing” to give him the “absolute minimum.”
Berry made headlines last month when she sought sole custody of Maceo.
The actress claims her son is struggling in school and is “a few grades behind,” adding that he has been diagnosed with ADHD and mild dyslexia.
He adds that Maceo’s father is, ‘He is either ‘oblivious’ to her difficulties or ‘carelessly ignores’ them, which she says shows he is unfit for custody.
The actress claims Martinez is delaying the custody hearing, which will affect a “decision regarding necessary interventions for the parties’ distressed son.”
She also claims that the actor is trying to “get more money out of her.”
Martinez had previously said he needed an “expert” to testify on his behalf, which he called “absurd.”
“It would be unfair, and certainly prejudicial to Maceo, to continue the September 10, 2024 hearing for 120 days on the basis that perceptive third-party witnesses are expected to testify or that Olivier somehow needs to engage other, unnamed experts,” the documents read.
Shortly after Berry’s appearance, Martinez responded that the actress “refuses” to set a date that suits her.
He added that Berry has rejected his request for help paying his legal fees, even though “It is true that he is earning several million dollars right now.
