“Oh my God…that is the worst first impression!”
Newest Atlanta Dream player Haley Jones is off to a slow start with coach Tanesha Wright after she missed a post-WNBA draft call.
Jones, the standout at Stanford, was selected by Atlanta with the No. 6 overall pick in Monday’s draft in New York City.
Jones reported that her phone had exploded — and her suspicion was correct, as Wright confirmed it in a tweet.
‘Hey girl!! Just trying to get to you to congratulate you on coming to A! #pickupyourphone @haleyjoness19, she tweeted.
Jones was notified of the tweet — and a missed call — by a reporter during her press conference following the Atlanta selection.

“Oh my God… Coach, if you’re listening or going to watch this interview, I literally got called (to the stage), and I didn’t even think about grabbing my phone. I hugged my mom, dad, and brother — so, when I get to my phone, I’m going to call her back.” Immediately ”.
This is like your worst first impression, missing a call from your new boss. So the second I get my phone, no matter how many missed calls I miss text messages, (I) call right away.
“I hope you know how excited I am to get to the A. to make an impact, get to boot camp, and just get ready for work.” I’ll tell her all this profusely as soon as we get on the phone.
Within an hour, Jones called back to find a voicemail on the other end, just as Wright had.
