Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the No. 5 Democrat in the House, told GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy that “he should serve this one out” as McCarthy and Republicans prepare to take Rep. Maxine Waters.
“Kevin McCarthy should focus on his own conference because the Republicans in the House are now a mess,” Jeffries said at a press conference following a meeting of the House Democratic Caucus on Tuesday morning. Lauren Boebert is a mess. Matt Gaetz is a mess. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a mess. Clean up your mess, Kevin. Sit down. ‘
Republicans have piled on Waters, who said Saturday that Black Lives Matter protesters should “ become confrontational ” if Officer Derek Chauvin is found not guilty. ‘
Representative Hakeem Jeffries said Kevin McCarthy, leader of the house’s minorities, “needs to figure this out” as he tries to denounce Representative Maxine Waters over comments she made at a protest in Minneapolis on Saturday. Lauren Boebert is a mess. Matt Gaetz is a mess. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a mess’
Republicans have signed up with Rep. Maxine Waters (pictured) for saying Black Lives Matter protesters should “ become more confrontational ” if Officer Derek Chauvin is found not guilty on Saturday
Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (left) and Lauren Boebert were controversial even before arriving on Capitol Hill in January for social media posts indicating they believed in the QAnon conspiracy theory. Greene was kicked from her committees for controversial posts
Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Republican in Florida, is being federally investigated for possible sex trafficking of a minor
McCarthy plans to offer a censure resolution on the House floor on Tuesday afternoon.
Republicans say Waters tried to incite violence.
“ It’s harder to imagine anything more inappropriate than a congressman flying over from California to inform local leaders – not so subtly – that this defendant better be found guilty or there will be major problems on the streets, ” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a floor speech Monday.
“ It is incomprehensible for a sitting member of Congress to look at what happened last summer and suggest that some sort of follow-up should come if a lawsuit doesn’t go the way she thinks it should, ” McConnell added to.
In tweets, Greene Waters called it a ‘danger to our society’.
As a sitting US Congressman, @MaxineWaters has threatened a jury and demanded a guilty verdict and threatened violence if Chauvin is found not guilty. This is also an abuse of power. #ExpelMaxineWaters, ”Greene said.
Boebert also agreed.
Why does Maxine Waters travel to another state to provoke an uproar? What good can come from this? the Colorado Republican asked.
Waters defended himself by telling Grio Monday, “I’m a non-violent one.”
She claimed Republicans were complaining about her comments like a racist dog whistle.
“Republicans will jump at every word and line and try to make it fit their message and their reason for denouncing and denying us, basically calling us violent,” Waters said.
‘Anytime they see an opportunity to grab a word, they do it and send a message to the white supremacists, the KKK, the Oath Keepers, the [Proud] Boys and all, ”she added.
Democrats pointed out that some of the Republicans who criticized Waters were detained by former President Donald Trump in the weeks following the January 6 MAGA crowd.
Trump was impeached in the House for instigating an uprising.
“ If you think Kevin McCarthy has the guts to say anything about someone when he backed the violent uprising after the mob attacked the Capitol, threatened to kill Nancy Pelosi, kill other members of Congress, pick up Mike Pence hanging, ”Jeffries said Tuesday.
“ He then came back to the Capitol, voted to support the ‘big lie’ that sparked the uprising and is still playing footsie with Donald Trump, ” Jeffries continued.
He then named the trio of Gaetz, Greene and Boebert.
Gaetz, a Republican in Florida, is currently under a federal investigation into possible sex trafficking of a minor.
Greene and Boebert were both previously supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory.
Greene was removed from the committee by the House Democratic majority after social media reports were uncovered suggesting she approved of Pelosi’s murder, among other offenses.
