Hairstylists share EXACTLY how to get sleek, shiny locks like the models at Australian Fashion Week

The hairstylists to the stars working behind the scenes at Australian Fashion Week have shared their must-have products for creating sleek, brilliant looks you can replicate at home.

St Agni show hair director Brad Rixon and stylist Paloma Rose Garcia, who worked with Matteau on Wednesday’s event, used a selection of R+Co products to achieve shimmering, slicked-back glamour.

The products, all available from Rogue Beauty, work to nourish hair from root to tip before applying heat, to ensure no damage is done for the sake of styling.

“Working with the quintessential Matteau woman, who is eternally natural, we work to enhance each model’s natural hair texture rather than alter or change it,” Paloma told FEMAIL.

‘We create soft, natural curves through her hair, with strong, centered parts. The hair is gently tucked behind the ears, behind the shoulders to ensure the final look is a cool, attainable daytime aesthetic.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK

1. Working through damp hair, apply a 10-cent piece of R+ Co Waterfall Moisturizing Lotion + Shinea super moisturizing balm, only from mid-lengths to ends.

2. Next, apply 1 pump of R+Co Two Way Mirror Smoothing Oil through the ends just to add extra shine.

3. Using a comb, add a clean center part, then comb through all hair with a wide tooth comb and allow hair to air dry completely.

4. Using medium hair clips, create creases from the middle of the hair to the ends.

5. To finish the look use R+Co Outer Space Flexible Hairspray so there is no escape.

In St Agni, Brad Rixon, owner of Rixon Hair in Queensland, formulated a more swept-back wet look for his clients.

“The key looks we’re seeing on the catwalk and especially for the St Agni show are all about healthy, luxurious and polished natural hair,” she said.

‘What I’ve been seeing is that consumers want to spend less time on their hair and still achieve a salon-quality result at home.

Enhancing natural texture is all about a great haircut and excellent home hair care. One of my favorite looks from the series is a wet look with a slanted back.

This is a great style to do yourself at home to accentuate the individual shape of your face and give your look a little more flair.’

HOW TO GET THE LOOK

1. Start with freshly shampooed hair. My personal favorite is the R+Co Atlantis range for maximum hydration.

2. Work a quarter Fresh Wind by R+Co on a dry towel. Then let the hair air dry.

3. Once hair is completely dry, rake a 20-cent piece of R+Co Wall Street Strong Hold Gel at the roots of your hair.

4. Using a wide tooth comb, add a deep side part and style the hair into the desired shape while keeping the hair on the sides as close to the scalp as possible. This contour combines very well with a relaxed or night look.

“Another favorite that I feel really lines up with the St Angi aesthetic is a soft look with effortless textured parting at the ends,” she said.

‘This is a relaxed daytime look that can be worn to the office or for a long Sunday lunch.’

HOW TO GET THE LOOK

1. Prepare the day before with R+Co Smooth Blue y Seal blow-dry mist into mid-lengths and ends, then lightly blow-dry into hair. This will give you a soft, tame feel without adding weight.

2. With the line in the middle and take a dime R+Co Bleu Surreal Styling Serum and work on the hands.

3. With the palms of your hands resting on the parting line, squeeze the product into the roots and stretch it towards the middle of the length. She continues stroking and squeezing until her hair feels soft. This will give you a super luxurious shine close to the scalp without making it look too wet.

4. From here you can customize this style and tuck your hair behind your ears or leave it floating.
