Hackers breach Lara and Tiffany Trump's social media accounts

On Tuesday, hackers apparently breached the social media accounts of Lara and Tiffany Trump, distributing what the former president’s son said were two fake posts promoting a family cryptocurrency company.

The posts on Social Media X appear to be from the accounts of Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, and Tiffany, the youngest of the former president’s two daughters.

Eric Trump quickly declared them a hoax in his own X post.

“This is a scam!” Eric Trump said. “The Twitter profiles of @LaraLeaTrump and @TiffanyATrump have been compromised!” Lara Trump and Tiffany Trump’s posts were deleted.

Eric Trump then posted “@twitter was amazing” and Lara and Tiffany Trump’s accounts were locked “within minutes.”

It was an embarrassing violation for the family considering former President Donald Trump’s close relationship with Elon Musk, who acquired the platform formerly known as Twitter in 2022 and is supporting him in the presidential race.

Both fake posts referred to World Liberty Financial, a Trump family cryptocurrency project that has yet to formally launch. The former president, who has called himself the first “crypto president” and whose campaign is receiving significant contributions from the industry, teased his announcement in a video posted last week.

An official World Liberty Financial account confirmed the attack in a separate post on X. “ALERT: Lara and Tiffany Trump’s X accounts have been attacked. DO NOT click on any links or purchase share tokens from their profiles,” the company said. “We are actively working to fix this, but please stay alert and avoid scams.”

World Liberty itself has been targeted by scammers before its launch. The Independent, a British newspaper, reported on monday that cybercriminals have lured tens of thousands of users to a counterfeit version of the site.

The breach comes nearly a month after the Trump campaign confirmed that some of its internal communications were compromised. US intelligence officials said Iran was responsible for cyberattacks on Trump campaign officials and also for hacking the Harris campaign.

X had no immediate comment.
