A woman made a terrifying discovery when she spotted a shark lurking near her private jetty at a popular swimming spot, just meters from a couple water skiing.

Brooke Van Ryan spotted the bull shark swimming in the water near her private jetty near Gymea Bay Baths, in Sydney’s south, shortly after 11am on Sunday.

Van Ryan uploaded a video to Facebook of the shocking moment he saw the predator swimming in the water.

“Yesterday’s visitor,” he wrote in the captions.

The shark then passed under the jetty before the creature ventured into shallow water.

“The bull shark was casually hanging around our private jetty chasing a bream,” Ms Ryan said. 7 news.

He said there were people water skiing at another dock nearby.

“Fortunately, he didn’t seem interested in the couple of people water skiing not far from the jetty,” he said.

The shark was seen swimming in shallow water for a period of time, before swimming back to the main waterway.

Social media users who commented on the post expressed shock at the horrific sighting.

“Ouch,” wrote one user.

‘I’m not going to swim there. “Oh my God,” said another.

The Gymea Bay Baths are a group of tidal baths that form a popular swimming spot, frequented by dozens of locals and visitors.

The area located near the Sutherland Shire is also home to dense bushland and woodland, which is ideal for hiking.

The latest discovery of the creature comes after a woman was mauled by a bull shark at a private dock in Elizabeth Bay.

Doctors battled to save Lauren O’Neill’s leg after she suffered a serious bite to her right leg while going swimming.

A nearby veterinarian rushed to the 29-year-old woman’s aid and used a tourniquet on her leg to stop the bleeding.

Emergency services arrived and took her to hospital, where she was later treated for her injuries.
