Gwyneth Paltrow was left “horrified” after her longtime friend Derek Blasberg lost control of his bowels at their Hamptons home and fled the scene, but is hopeful they will “eventually laugh” about the incident, sources close to the pair claim.
Earlier this month, DailyMail.com revealed that the The socialite and celebrity who appeared there was the the culprit of the mortifying experience that was first mentioned as a hidden article in a popular gossip newsletter.
Since then, both Gwyneth, 51, and the fashion journalist, 42, have remained silent, with sources close to the couple claiming the Goop founder “feels bad” but knows they should avoid hanging out together for the foreseeable future.
‘‘Gwyneth would like to eventually laugh about it with Derek, but at the moment there is still a lot of embarrassment,’ a source revealed exclusively to DailyMail.com.
‘They both know that if they’re ever seen together or if he ever comes back to her house and they go out to dinner, it’ll be all anyone will be talking about.’

They continued: ‘It’s not that they aren’t friends and won’t be friendly with each other in the future, it’s just that it’s a little awkward and they both realise that some time needs to pass before they hang out together again.
“The likelihood of them becoming friends in the future is quite high: she has already overcome worse events in her life.”
The source claimed that Gwyneth and her friends reacted similarly to the situation, as they debunked claims that the actress-turned-wellness guru is being seen as a snitch.
“At first he thought it was horrible, but since then he found humor in it and laughed a lot about it,” they said.
‘Most of Gwyneth’s friends think it’s terribly funny and disgusting, but they don’t think any different about Gwyneth.’
A new secret email newsletter article titled Popb***h made it clear that Gwyneth was not the one who leaked the story to the Hamptons.
“Since the ghost of the Hamptons was revealed to be the famous barnacle Derek Blasberg, Gwyneth Paltrow has received a lot of criticism,” it said.
‘Society folk are horrified that she would break a cardinal rule of hostessing and talk about her guest’s gastrointestinal indiscretion. But to be fair to Gwynnie, the leak may not have been hers.’

Derek is no stranger to spending time with Paltrow at her home on Long Island, pictured in 2018 when she married Brad Falchuk.
The report continued: ‘Gwyneth was having lunch with Oprah Winfrey and Jerry Seinfeld when her furious housekeeper called her, screaming at the top of her voice about the horrors she had discovered and yelling how much she hated “that damn friend” of hers.
“And, most damningly, complaining about the trail they had left at the crime scene.”
The source said Gwyneth firmly believed the situation would soon be old news and concluded: “She feels bad that it’s out there and everyone knows about it, but it will pass.”
In June, someone hinted at the scandal in an Instagram post by Derek that featured Gwyneth, 51.
The internet was sent into a frenzy last month when the first article hidden in popular gossip newsletter Popb***h claimed that Gwyneth had been tasked with cleaning up someone’s “Ozempic-induced diarrhoea” in her home.
“The story goes that a recent guest at Gwynnie’s catastrophically shit the bed while there and then fled back to town rather than face the consequences,” it said.
The report reveals that the scandal has become “the favorite topic of conversation among Hamptons hosts to text each other”: “Ozempic-induced diarrhea is becoming a very hot topic of conversation among hosts there, because so many of their guests are using it. So laundromats are expected to be fully booked by July 4.”
The source made it clear that the pair remain friends, but are likely to remain estranged for a while (pictured at their Hamptons home in 2022).
Close sources later told DailyMail.com that Derek – once described as “one of the best-connected men in showbiz” – was to blame and had conveniently blamed the incident on the popular weight-loss wonder drug before allegedly fleeing the property.
“He’s not Ozempic, that’s just what he told everyone,” the source said, before revealing how the secret got out to the Hamptons establishment.
“Gwyneth told Oprah, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld and Larry David,” they continued.
“It’s amazing how many people know about this story and how she’s managed to keep it out of the Post… probably through her best friend (socialite Dasha Zhukova), whose mother just married Rupert Murdoch.”
Derek was no stranger to spending time with the actress at her five-bedroom home on Long Island, where she celebrated her wedding to Brad Falchuk in 2018.
In 2022, the fashion expert posted a snap of himself and the actress celebrating her 50th birthday at the sprawling property.
And it appears someone tried to out Derek as the phantom pooper four weeks before the news broke when they commented with two poop emojis, a toilet emoji, and a dynamite emoji on the Instagram post.
