Gunman opens fire at Melbourne home in Tarneit as children sleep inside

A man opened fire at a house in Tarneit, in Melbourne's west, in the early hours of 3 September.

A family of five miraculously escaped injury after a masked gunman fired six shots inside their home in the early hours of the morning.

Two adults and their three children were sleeping inside their home on St Michaels Drive in Tarneit, in Melbourne’s west, at around 3am on September 3 when they were woken by gunfire.

Security cameras captured a man wearing a balaclava and a dark hooded sweatshirt walking down the street, stopping next to a nearby parked van before opening fire on the house.

He then quickly fled the scene and remains at large.

No one inside the house was injured.

The man who lives in the house is apparently known to the police.

Victoria Police released CCTV footage of the incident on Wednesday.
