Disturbing CCTV images have emerged of a man moments before he was allegedly murdered in a horrific daylight attack.

Josese McGoon, 37, and a friend had just finished eating pizza when they began walking towards a friend’s house shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday on Bangor Street, Guildford, in Sydney’s west.

Three masked men dressed in black got out of a blue or silver Toyota sedan and assaulted the couple before they stabbed McGoon in the stomach.

His friend managed to distract one of the alleged attackers by running towards his vehicle parked on nearby Cardigan Street.

He then drove back to the scene and found Mr McGoon lying injured in the road with abdominal injuries.

His friend took Mr McGoon to Westmead Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery but died three hours later.

His attackers remained at large on Sunday evening.

Mr McGoon was caught on CCTV walking down the street moments before the stabbing.

The Toyota sedan from which his alleged attackers allegedly got out was also seized, as was the car of McGoon’s friend who was rushing him to the hospital.

NSW Police believed the group had “intent” but the alleged attack appeared random.

“They obviously had intentions when they went to that location, they knew what they were doing and obviously our victim and our witness were in the wrong place at the wrong time, it appears,” Superintendent Andrew Holland told reporters.

‘At this stage we are not aware of any link to the attack, but again there is concern as to why they were attacked in the middle of the day and in the middle of the street.’

Although the weapon has not yet been located, Mr Holland believes that based on Mr McGoon’s injuries, “it is believed to be a bladed weapon”.

What is worrying to police is the fact that the alleged attack happened in broad daylight on a suburban street and that Mr McGoon was not involved in any criminal activity.

“The victim has no links to organised crime networks or motorcycle gangs at this stage, neither does the witness… the victim is known to police but not to any serious matters,” Superintendent Holland said.

Mr McGoon’s friend is understood to be assisting police but is now “concerned for his safety and wellbeing”, Superintendent Holland added.

Police are urging any witnesses who were on Bangor Street at the time of the stabbing to come forward with any information they may have.

Investigations are still ongoing and police have been canvassing the area asking for CCTV footage and information from nearby residents.

The suspected stabbing was the second fatal stabbing in Sydney in the 12 hours after a man in his 30s was allegedly stabbed with a machete in Concord, in Sydney’s central west, on Friday night.

A 15-year-old boy has subsequently been charged with murder.
