Guests arrive for the tranquil 60th birthday bash of Prince Andrew in Windsor

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were there today to attend the Duke of York’s quiet 60th birthday amid rumors that many guests had avoided the event.

The Duke of York celebrates the personal milestone with a private lunch at Royal Lodge, the Windsor residence that he shares with his ex-wife Fergie.

His two daughters arrived this afternoon at the residence in darkened Range Rovers for a quiet and intimate gathering of about a dozen friends and family.

The Daily Mail reported that so many friends had been “unavailable” to the party that additional invitations were sent by Fergie’s assistant Jane Clarke.

This year’s birthday was overshadowed by his disastrous Newsnight performance about his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, forcing him to step back in the near future.

The duke was confronted with a setback after the interview with critics who accused him of showing no regrets about his friendship with the disgraced financier and empathy with his victims.

Such muffled parties are far removed from the fanfare that Andrew and other senior royals usually enjoy on their milestone birthdays.

Government buildings do not have to fly the flag of the Union to mark his birthday and he will not be promoted to Admiral as planned.

Liverpool City Hall was one of the buildings not to fly the British flag today.

The bells of Westminster Abbey will still sound in celebration because it is a Royal Peculiar, a place of worship that falls under the jurisdiction of the monarch instead of a bishop.

The abbey also marks the birthdays of the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, their children, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children.

The announcement is unlikely to have a significant effect, as many government buildings, such as British embassies or government departments, already fly the flag of the Union every day of the year and are expected to continue to do so.

Andrew’s 50th birthday party saw a series of glamorous women attend a weekend of birthday events at St James’s Palace.

Partygoers included Catrina Skepper, the one-time model of Pretty Polly and Cadbury, as well as socialite Caroline Stanbury, who subsequently appeared in the reality TV program Ladies Of London, and socialite Goga Ashkenazi from Kazakh.

Andrew’s association with Epstein was well-known at the time, but was sharpened after the shameful pedophile’s death last year.

Why the flags don’t fly for Andrew’s birthday

Government buildings will not be obliged to fly the flag of the Union to mark Andrew’s 60th birthday, following his decision to give up public duties, the Ministry of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said.

For the milestone, the tribute to the Union Flag was called “crass and offensive” by Graham Smith of Republic, who is campaigning for an elected head of state.

Downing Street said earlier this month that the issue of the national flag was being looked at in tribute.

A spokesperson for the Culture Department said: “Following the decision of the Duke of York to abandon public duties in the near future, it is no longer required that buildings of the British government fly the flag of the Union on Wednesday, February 19.

The announcement is unlikely to have a significant effect, as many government buildings, such as British embassies or government departments, already fly the flag of the Union every day of the year and are expected to continue to do so.

Local authorities have the freedom to fly the flag of the Union on a given day.

Virginia Giuffre, who claims that she was trafficked by Epstein, also claims that the duke had sex with her three times, including when she was 17, still a minor under US law.

Andrew, who strongly denies the allegations, has had to deal with calls to talk to the FBI and US prosecutors who are still investigating Epstein, who committed suicide in prison while being confronted with sex-indictment.

The duke was to be promoted to Admiral on his 60th birthday, in accordance with a long-standing policy of treating high princes as military members.

But Buckingham Palace has already said that the duke has asked to postpone the promotion until he is able to fully resume royal duties.

The official Royal Family Instagram account offered Andrew a public statement of support, generally regarded as the ‘favorite’ son of the queen, by sharing two photos: a youth photo of the prince and a new formal portrait.

The caption reads: “On this day in 1960, Prince Andrew was born in Buckingham Palace, the first child born in a reigning monarch for 103 years. Congratulations on The Duke of York. ”

Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson, 60, shared a photo of her ex-husband relaxing at home with two dogs, along with an unusually modest message.
