Grubhub note sent to NY cafe where woman asked ‘call the police’ leads to the rescue of captive

Quick-thinking workers at a New York cafe on Sunday rescued a kidnapped woman from an accused serial rapist after she sent a note via the GrubHub delivery app to call the police.

Employees at The Chipper Truck Cafe in Yonkers sensed something was amiss when they received the garbled order for an Irish sandwich and beef burger at 5:50 am on June 19.

“Please call the police, he’s going to call me when you’ve delivered the cones, please don’t make it clear,” the note to the driver said.

Concerned that someone was in trouble, cafe workers called the owner and asked what to do, according to 20-year-old Alicia Bermejo, the owner’s daughter.

“They said, is this a joke? So they called my dad and he told me to call the police. Better safe than sorry,’ she said.

It was no joke, according to the charges against Kemoy Royal, 33, he was apparently on a sexual rampage, allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting two women in as many weeks.

Royal is accused of meeting the women through dating apps and then luring them back to his apartment, where he detains them with death threats and then forces himself on them.

Police responded at 3719 Pratt Avenue in the Bronx after the 911 call from the Yonkers cafe and found the 24-year-old victim being held against her will by Royal, police said.

She said they met through a dating app and moved back to his apartment, but she felt uncomfortable and tried to leave.

That’s when Royal allegedly grabbed her by the throat and started choking her, she said.

She begged him not to kill her, according to the charges, and told him he could rape her if he didn’t kill her.

He told her she would die if she didn’t do as he told her, and held a knife to her throat, according to one indictment. When she tried to call the police, he took her phone.

It wasn’t until she asked to order food that he allowed her to get her phone back and sent her cry for help to The Chipper Truck Cafe.

He told police he thought she wanted to have sex with him, according to Bronx prosecutors.

Royal was arrested around 6:30 am when he opened the door for the food delivery.

He was charged with 27 counts of two sexual assaults and kidnapping, including a top charge of rape rape and other crimes.

The lawyer for the accused rapist Zaiim Pezhmon could not be reached for comment.

After he was arrested on June 19, police discovered a second victim, a 26-year-old woman who also accused Royal of assault.

During that June 14 attack, he claimed on a date that he needed to get something from his apartment and once the woman was inside, he wouldn’t let her go, prosecutors continue.

He attacked her, biting her chest until he drew blood, according to the indictment. The victim saw knives all over his apartment, authorities said.

Royal strangled the victim and at one point put his genitals in her food.

Royal told police he thought his victim was playing ‘cat-and-mouse’ with him and that he forced himself on her ‘because he thought she acted like women’.

He was also charged with attempted rape and sexual assault in that case.

But the cafe workers are happy to help catch him.

“To be honest, I’m glad he’s off the street,” Bermejo said. ‘I’m afraid. I hope no one else does such a thing, but that might be wishful thinking.’

On his LinkedIn page, Royal is depicted in a black and white bow tie and suit reading Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War.”

He describes himself as a graduate of Delaware State University who works as a health care informatics consultant dealing with electronic health records. His clients include Mount Sinai Health System, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, St. Mary’s Healthcare and Trinity Health, according to his online profile.

On his Facebook page he describes himself as a poet, writer, artist, teacher, medical advisor and entrepreneur.
