Legal fight: Gay dating app Grindr accused of sharing sensitive details of hundreds of users without their consent

Gay dating app Grindr is being sued for allegedly sharing users’ private information with advertisers, including their HIV status.

London-based law firm Austen Hays accused the US company of breaching data protection after it allegedly shared sensitive details of hundreds of users without their consent.

This included HIV status, sexual orientation, and ethnicity.

Austen Hays added that around 670 people have joined her lawsuit, and thousands more in the UK could be affected.

If successful, the plaintiffs could receive thousands of pounds in damages, Austen Hays said.

The violations are said to have taken place between 2018 and 2020.

A Grindr spokesperson said the company planned to “respond strongly to this claim.”
