A crumbling cabin that ‘barely stood’ has been transformed into a multi-million dollar home after a $ 1.3 million makeover.

On one of the most exclusive streets in Brisbane, the dilapidated building was once an eyesore, with dirt filling every room and peeling paint off the walls.

But builder Julian Zullo saw potential in the ‘hamster house’ in Coorparoo.

And after countless man-hours that have taken waste out of the house, it has now become a family dream.

“It was really the worst house in the best street,” said owner Julian Zullo Domain.

“Many people knew this place as the crazy hamster house where a little old lady lived for 60 years.

“And everyone knew about her because of all the weeds and how run-down the house was, and that kept the rest of them from buying it.

“But I saw the potential. There was just so much character. ‘

He said it was “so worth it” to drive down the street and remember it for what it was and see it for what it is now.

It took a year of planning and another 12 months of construction to transform the property.

The old late 19th century cottage in Coorparoo fell apart before the redesign.

But the five-bedroom family home now combines historic elegance and modern design.

The stylish two-story house also features an outdoor area and a swimming pool.

With open plan living and dining areas and a kitchen complete with a pantry, it is now on the market and attracts avid buyers, who can bid on the house from July 10.
