Grim discovery: A body is found in a stairwell of an apartment block in Box Hill, as a man helps police with their investigations

The body of a man was discovered in the stairwell of a home in Melbourne’s east.

Emergency services were called to the apartment block on Young Street in Box Hill at around 7.45pm on Saturday after receiving reports of an assault.

Upon entering the house, police found the man dead on a staircase.

He has not yet been formally identified.

Victoria Police said a second man is assisting with police inquiries.

Homicide squad detectives attended the scene and investigations into the death remain ongoing.
