“While getting my kids ready for bed and finishing bath time, smoke started seeping through the grout around the tub,” she said. “When I looked down the hallway, a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house.”

Scorsone continued, “One thing about fires: They happen fast. I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house, and we ran with less shoes than our feet. But we got out. And for that I’m forever grateful.”

Scorsone, who is mom to two daughters Eliza, 10, Paloma ‘Pippa’ Michaela, 6, and Lucky, 3, and with ex Rob Giles, said, ‘Thank you to the parents at my kids’ school who sent the toys and books, my friends at @greysabc and shondaland who sent the clothes and supplies , my sisters who flew in to handle the logistics so I could be with my kids.

Scorsone, who appeared in 198 episodes of the Shonda Rhimes drama, said she was encouraged by the community’s response in the aftermath of the devastating fire.

“This is not a post about a fire,” she said. This is a post about the community. This is a love letter to the amazing people who came out and the amazing ways they did it. Thanks to the firefighters and investigators. Thanks to Gary who answered our frantic knock on her door.
