Former Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn was heard on secret police wiretaps performing an unusual sex act while behind the wheel of the Nissan Patrol he was using to hide the bodies of two elderly campers.

The 57-year-old was found guilty on Tuesday of the murder of elderly camper Carol Clay, but acquitted of the murder of her secret lover Russell Hill.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal detectives tasked with bringing Lynn to justice endured an arduous task listening to and documenting hours of recordings obtained from microphones hidden in the driver’s vehicle, home and phone.

A detective who listened to 3,150 recordings of Lynn speaking to himself formed the opinion that the former pilot was “homophobic, narcissistic, chauvinistic, misogynistic and prejudiced”, a preliminary court hearing was told.

Police sources confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that a recording captured Lynn loudly describing how he was performing a lewd act on himself in the car, which involved the use of sunscreen.

The recording was not presented at Lynn’s murder trial in the Supreme Court of Victoria along with all other pieces of audio obtained by the Victoria Police Missing Persons Team.

Victorian Supreme Court Justice Michael Croucher ruled that Lynn’s recorded comments were inadmissible at trial because they offered no real evidence to support the prosecution’s case.

During the preliminary hearing in January 2023, Detective Chief Constable Daniel Passingham told the court he heard Lynn reflecting on a murder while driving towards the Wonnanangatta Valley shortly before her arrest.

Greg Lynn was heard performing a lewd act on himself with the help of sunscreen.

The now-former Missing Persons Squad detective said police had made thousands of recordings of Lynn in her car in the 11 months before her arrest in the Victorian Highlands.

“From what I heard from the defendant, he expressed it as a chapter in life,” Officer Passingham said.

The detective also claimed that Lynn had mentioned while driving alone in his vehicle that his “book had been written.”

“These are in the recordings that were taken while driving the Nissan Patrol,” he said.

While alone in his car in May 2021, Lynn turned up the volume on his radio after a news report reported the couple missing.

I put a damn safety on the trigger. You have to get a second set of damn trigger lock keys and stick them in there… They have to keep holding down the whole time, right? she was heard saying on the recordings.

Later that day, after hearing another news report on the subject, Lynn began to rant strangely.

“They’re sitting on a beach in bloody Queensland. Nudist beach. Butt naked. Playing with his damn drone. Running up and down the beach. Taking photographs of the young people. Who has the biggest penis? he said to himself.

By the time police began hearing from Lynn in November 2020, he had already returned to the site where he dumped the campers’ bodies and destroyed most of the evidence. He admitted in court to having destroyed the evidence.

Lynn was regularly heard talking to himself and singing in the car.

Detectives had been listening to Lynn when they made the call to send a helicopter with officers from the Special Operations Group to arrest him.

‘I saw some people fishing, what is that, a snake bite. It would be a good way to go. You never know when it’s coming, dammit, shit. “Australia’s gift,” Lynn mumbled.

“I think she knows I’m uploading, one of the pages of the final chapter.”

Lynn’s behavior behind the wheel of his 4×4 was prompted by allegations from his ex-wife’s mother, detailed at the preliminary hearing, that his behavior was often “bizarre”.

‘Greg’s behavior in general would be described as strange. In my opinion, he has a deformed mind,” he told the coroner after the alleged suicide of his daughter Lisa.

“He has done things in the past like killing animals and a neighbor’s pet, refusing to feed the children when he was supposed to be looking after them, and on one occasion, he burst into an uncontrollable fit of rage when we went to dinner at the Macedonia Hotel. ‘

Lisa’s mother told the court that Lynn verbally attacked a man at the bar after he made the mistake of talking to Lisa.

He then became angry with his then-wife after leaving the hotel, she told the coroner.

“The only thing I would like to add is that, as far as I am concerned, Greg is responsible for my daughter’s death due to mental torture inflicted by him,” Lisa’s mother told the court.

‘I know she lived in absolute fear of Greg. I accept from what (I have been told) about the circumstances in which she died, that she was alone that night.

“Greg was not there, however, his actions were the culmination of the fear and terror he lived in.”

Lynn will return to court for a pre-sentence hearing in July.
