Gregg Berhalter has reportedly been fired as head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team, just days after his team was eliminated from the Copa America in the group stage.
Berhalter’s second stint in charge of his country ends after just 14 games and two consecutive Copa America defeats to Panama and Uruguay.
Fan clamour for the 50-year-old to be sacked reached a fever pitch in the days following the embarrassing exit, with US Soccer bosses now pulling the trigger, according to FOX Sports.
The decision will trigger a major rebuild just two years before the United States hosts the World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada in 2026.
Last week, DailyMail.com columnist Tim Howard spearheaded the push for the United States to hire former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp as their next head coach.

In his first term in charge of the United States, from December 2018 to December 2022, Berhalter won 61 percent of his 60 games in charge, but that winning percentage fell to 50 percent in his second term of just 11 months.
Berhalter’s contract expired at the end of the 2022 World Cup, and he was embroiled in an off-field scandal involving former teammate Claudio Reyna.
Berhalter criticized Reyna’s son, Gio (a member of the U.S. team at the World Cup), prompting his mother, Danielle, to inform U.S. soccer bosses about a 1992 domestic violence incident involving Berhalter and his then-girlfriend, now wife.
That triggered a lengthy investigation that kept Berhalter away from the team for six months before he was officially reinstated for a second stint in charge.

Last week, several American soccer legends called for Berhalter to be replaced as head coach after the team failed to advance out of its Copa America group.
Speaking to FOX Sports after the game, Clint Dempsey said: “I’m speechless, it’s so frustrating. You’ve got a team that you are supporting and want to do well… but where have we gotten to since 2022?
‘You qualify for the World Cup, you get out of the group… and where have we advanced? We haven’t advanced. That’s the most frustrating part.

‘This is our golden generation and it seems like we are wasting it. 2026 is approaching and we will never have this opportunity again. We had it in 1994 and we will have it here, but you never know when the next time will come.’
Alongside him, Alexi Lalas also intervened and criticised coach Berhalter after another poor performance.
“If this is the best it can get, it’s not good enough,” the former United States midfielder said. “This is not good enough from Gregg Berhalter… we can’t afford to be embarrassed and we can’t afford to go into the summer of 2026 with a team that hasn’t progressed, that hasn’t evolved and that hasn’t improved.
“I’m sure if Gregg Berhalter was here, he’d say, ‘But you don’t see what’s going on inside.’ I don’t give a shit what’s going on inside. I don’t care about the dynamics, I don’t care how much your players love you.”
