The grieving widow of murdered camper Russell Hill has revealed she will never forgive Greg Lynn and hopes he “suffers for the rest of his life”.

Robyn Hill, who was married to Hill, 74, for 50 years, was shocked when a Supreme Court jury found Lynn not guilty of her husband’s murder on Tuesday.

“I think it makes you feel numb or that his death was in vain because no one is going to be punished for it,” Hill told Nine News.

But he took solace in the fact that the former Jetstar pilot was convicted of killing Mr. Hill’s secret lover, Carol Clay, 73, a verdict she described as a bittersweet relief.

“I hope he suffers for the rest of his life, I really do,” Hill added.

“I hope he has a good time in jail.”

He didn’t dare look at Lynn in court during the recent trial.

“No, because I was very nervous,” she said.

The stoic widow, who discovered her husband had continued their affair when she learned of his death, admitted she missed him.

“It’s very lonely because you don’t have anyone to talk to,” Hill said.

“I can’t ask him anything because he’s not here.”

Even though her husband’s infidelity was exposed during the trial, Mrs Hill insisted she had no hard feelings towards her secret lover.

“She was a very nice lady, I have nothing against Carol,” he said.

Hill said he expected Lynn to spend 25 years in prison as he anxiously awaits his sentencing.

His next court appearance will be July 19.

Meanwhile, Lynn’s wife Melanie and son were in no mood to talk when Channel Nine visited their home on Wednesday and sped off in a car.

Lynn had pleaded not guilty to their murders, but after seven days of deliberations, the 12-member jury found him guilty of killing Clay, but not guilty of murdering Hill.

The Hill and Clay families issued a joint statement on the split verdict, describing the not guilty decision as “devastating.”

‘The not guilty verdict in relation to the murder of Russell Hill is devastating. “There was not enough evidence to be sure how he died,” the statement read.

‘Our families were always aware that the prosecutor had an enormous burden of proof since there were no eyewitnesses. The accused was the only person who saw and experienced what happened. He was also the only person who came out alive.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of our loved ones. It will take time for us to digest the verdicts, put this behind us and begin to heal and move forward with our lives.”

The jury heard that Hill was Clay’s first boyfriend, but they got back together in 2006, while they were both married to other people.

During the mammoth trial, Ms Hill was questioned about her long-suffering relationship with her husband, whom she married in 1969.

Hill told the court she and her husband were going on holiday to Phillip Island with Clay and her then-husband, oblivious to their secret relationship.

She told the court she had known Clay since her husband, who had told her Clay was his first cousin.

It was a lie that Mrs. Hill only discovered after observing her husband and Mrs. Clay behaving in “strange ways,” such as going for walks together on those trips.

The secret relationship finally came to a head when a neighbor threatened to expose Mr. Hill’s behavior to his wife.

The court heard Hill confessed to the relationship but assured his wife he would end the affair immediately – a lie he maintained until his alleged murder.

Complete statement from the victims’ families regarding the trial verdict

The families of Russell Hill and Carol Clay are both relieved and devastated by the verdicts in the trial of Gregory Lynn for the murder of Russell Hill and Carol Clay, handed down today.

The jury has only decided murder in one case, that of Carol Clay.

The guilty verdict was the only charge. The possibility of a verdict of “involuntary manslaughter” was ruled out. We thank the jury for their guilty verdict in the murder of Carol Clay. It was an extremely difficult task given that the defendants destroyed so much evidence.

The not guilty verdict in relation to the murder of Russell Hill is devastating. There was not enough evidence to be sure how he died.

Our families were always aware that the prosecutor had an enormous burden of proof since there were no eyewitnesses. The accused was the only person who saw and experienced what happened. He was also the only person who came out alive.

We wholeheartedly thank the Crown prosecutors for their diligent efforts in presenting the inquest and trial. They had to do a tremendous amount of work to build a case with limited evidence. They fought hard to have all the evidence allowed to be presented in court so the jury could make an informed decision, but it was not to be.

We also thank the Victoria Police Missing Persons Team, particularly Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper and Sergeant Brett Florence for their tireless investigative work over four and a half years. They have gone above and beyond in their duties to resolve this case and we sincerely thank them for their time, effort, perseverance, attention and professionalism in providing us with answers.

Thank you for the wider involvement of Victoria Police, we appreciate the efforts of all of you and are extremely grateful for your expertise, hard work and support. We also thank all of the wonderful volunteers who spent weeks searching for our loved ones.

Finally, the families of Carol Clay and Russell Hill would like to thank all of our friends and family who have been supportive during this heartbreaking experience over the past four years.

We are heartbroken by the loss of our loved ones. It will take time to digest the verdicts, put this behind us and begin to heal and move on with our lives. At this time, we ask that you respect our privacy while we do this.

On behalf of both of us,

The Hill Family and the Clay Family
