Lisa Lynn lived in fear of her ex-husband Greg Lynn and ultimately took her own life, according to court documents. The information was not before the Victorian Supreme Court jury.

When Greg Lynn’s ex-wife’s parents found out she was dead, her mother immediately suspected it was her fault, court documents revealed.

Lisa Lynn was found dead in October 1999 after consuming a lethal cocktail of alcohol and sleeping pills.

It was information that was not before the Victorian Supreme Court jury that on Tuesday acquitted Lynn of the murder of Russell Hill, but found him guilty of the murder of Carol Clay.

The two secret lovers pitched a tent near Lynn when they died in the Wonnanangatta Valley in Victoria’s alpine region on March 20, 2020.

There is no suggestion that the explosive information about Lisa Lynn could have led to a guilty verdict in Hill’s case, had it been admitted to the jury, or that Lynn was responsible for his ex-wife’s death.

Daily Mail Australia can now reveal shocking allegations made against Lynn by the parents of his first wife and mother of his two children while he lived in Mount Macedon, northwest of Melbourne.

It was information provided by the prosecution to Judge Michael Croucher after Lynn’s lawyer suggested he would call witnesses who would present evidence supporting his client’s “good character.”

“Prior to their separation, Lisa had told me that Greg had been making very serious death threats against her and that they continued until his death,” Lisa’s father told the coroner in a statement withheld at trial.

‘Greg had been verbally abusing Lisa since their marriage began. Lisa kept a diary from the day Greg left her marriage. The diary details Greg’s abusive phone calls, death threats and verbal abuse of her children.

In a series of statements given to coroner Graeme Johnstone at the time, Lynn’s alleged torment of his ex-wife was revealed..

Lisa had he left no suicide note and had not indicated to anyone that he might have been suicidal.

During the pre-trial hearing at the Supreme Court, it was revealed that Lynn was not found responsible for his ex-wife’s death and the coroner ruled it a suicide.

WHAT THE FORENSIC FOUND

Coroner Graeme Johnstone said Lisa Lynn was believed to be deeply depressed at the time of her death.

However, the coroner was left with doubts about whether he had intended to take his own life or not.

Medical examiners later revealed that his blood alcohol content was 0.2, more than three times the legal limit for driving a car.

They also found traces of antidepressants in his system.

Lisa was found in the fetal position outside the family’s home in Macedonia, northwest of Melbourne, while the couple’s two children, aged one and three, slept inside.

The coroner’s court heard Lynn accepted through unsigned statements that he had been violent towards his ex-wife, including breaking into the family home, stealing keys and taking the car.

In court documents provided to the coroner’s court, Lisa’s father, who was not named in court, claimed he had been aware of Lynn’s verbal abuse of his daughter since the marriage began.

“I am also aware… of the abuse and the fact that Greg broke into the house and took the car, leaving Lisa with two children and no means of transportation,” she told the coroner.

“He refused to give her car back and left her without money.”

Lisa’s father told the coroner that Lynn had harassed and intimidated her after the breakdown of their marriage.

‘I know from speaking to Lisa that she was not prepared to press charges against Greg for fear of the repercussions.

“She took his threats very seriously. She was absolutely petrified and lived in terror,’ she claimed.

Lisa’s mother, who would travel from Tasmania to help her daughter in distress, painted an even more disturbing portrait of her former son-in-law as she gave evidence, including accusations of animal cruelty, violence and “bizarre” behaviour.

“As well as not getting any support from Greg, he subjected her to physical and mental abuse on a regular basis,” she told the coroner.

‘These events happened too often to remember, specifically things like losing your temper for no reason and blaming Lisa for anything that went wrong.

Then he yelled at her, threw things at her and pushed her. I felt very uncomfortable when these events occurred because he was unwilling to interfere and Lisa was pleading with me for her not to interfere.

Lisa’s mother told the coroner that her daughter told her that any interference on her part would result in more pain and misery at home.

‘Greg’s behavior in general would be described as strange. In my opinion, he has a deformed mind,” he told the coroner.

“He has done things in the past like killing animals and the neighbour’s pet, refusing to feed the children when he was supposed to be looking after them and on one occasion exploding into a fit of uncontrollable rage when we went to dinner at the Macedon Hotel.”

Lisa’s mother told the court that Lynn verbally attacked a man at the bar after he made the mistake of talking to Lisa.

He then became angry with his then-wife after leaving the hotel, she told the coroner.

“The only thing I would like to add is that, as far as I am concerned, Greg is responsible for my daughter’s death due to mental torture inflicted by him,” Lisa’s mother told the court.

‘I know she lived in absolute fear of Greg. I accept from what (I have been told) about the circumstances in which she died, that she was alone that night.

“Greg was not there, however, his actions were the culmination of the fear and terror he lived in.”

The court heard that Lisa had kept a detailed diary of her fractured relationship with Lynn.

Lynn’s defense chose not to present any evidence of “good character” to the jury.

Lynn will appear in court at a future date for a pre-sentence hearing for Clay’s murder.
