Prahan MP and father-of-two Sam Hibbins, 42, resigned from Parliament after his office was vandalized following his affair.

An adulterous Greens MP has shockingly walked out of parliament after news of his affair became public.

Victorian Greens co-MP Sam Hibbins, 42, said the wellbeing of his family and staff was the main reason behind his retirement on Saturday.

The Prahan MP and father of two previously posted a statement on his social media saying the “short” relationship had broken party room rules.

He said the matter was already over when the news became public on November 1.

Hibbins mentioned in his resignation that his office in Parliament had been vandalized by protesters and that his possessions had been stolen since the news broke.

“This has been an extremely difficult time for us as the public disclosure of what was a private matter has had a significant effect on our family’s mental health,” he wrote.

‘Deeply worrying, following my resignation from the Greens, there was unauthorized access to my office in Parliament.

‘Personal items, including photographs of the family and my children as babies, were vandalized with offensive and threatening graffiti. “We believe this involved multiple people.”

Mr Hibbins has already referred the vandalism of his office to judicial services and the police.

“This has become a concerted campaign against me,” he continued.

“I know many of you will understand that as a father of two young children, I must put the safety and well-being of my family first.”

He said the resignation would be effective for both his position in Prahran and its position in the Victorian Parliament.

‘The people of Prahran can elect someone with the energy and focus to work and campaign wholeheartedly for them at such an important time for our community and local society.

‘Serving our community as a local MP and councilor for the last 12 years has been a privilege.

‘I want to thank everyone for their support over the years, including the last few weeks, as we made history and fought for a better future. “It has been an extraordinary journey together with our community, but my family’s future cannot wait.”

Hibbins added that the highlights of his career had come in defend equality, sustainable transportation and social and economic justice.

“Advocating for those most in need, including our public housing residents, will always be something I am deeply proud of,” he said.
