Greene gave graphic details of operations in a lunchtime speech.
She argued that “we need to protect children from making a terrible mistake.”
“This is not all a far-right idea,” she said.
Greene said her bill, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, should limit these operations.
Not only does the bill make it a felony for medical professionals to perform gender-affirming care, but it prohibits federal funding from going to gender-affirming care.
Greene suggested it would likely pass the House, with its narrow Republican majority.
“Let me tell you my great news this morning, ladies and gentlemen, it couldn’t make it to the last Congress because, as I said, Nancy Pelosi was the speaker of the House and she doesn’t believe in gender at all,” Greene said. .
“But we have a new speaker in our Republican majority in our House of Representatives and I’m going to introduce my bill, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, which will make it a felony to do anything to do with gender-affirming care,” she said. added to huge cheers.
