EXCLUSIVE
Bizarre footage has emerged showing a Greens candidate telling audience members at a comedy gig that she was “stupid” enough to go into politics because she wanted to “f*** Barnaby Joyce”.
Mandy Nolan, a candidate for the seat of Richmond in the Byron Bay region, was hosting a cabaret show called The Met Gala in Lismore, northern New South Wales, on July 27 when she made the shocking comment.
Facing neighbours who paid $140 each for tickets, Ms Nolan said: ‘I was asked why I would do something as stupid as get into politics.
“And I said, ‘I’m just doing this so I can fuck Barnaby Joyce.'”
Mr Joyce was the Nationals frontbencher in 2017 when he announced he had left his wife of 24 years for his much younger co-worker Vikki Campion.
At the time, Mrs Campion was two months away from giving birth to her eldest son, Sebastian.
He resigned as party leader but remains in the front line.
Asked for comment by the Daily Mail Australia, Ms Nolan said: “Just kidding, Joyce” – an outdated line from a 1960s Australian sitcom.
Barnaby Joyce is pictured with Vikki Campion at their wedding in November.
According to the event page, Ms. Nolan promised to be “the most witty and charming host for everyone to experience.”
Although he has not yet made it to the Senate, he will stand in the next elections and promises his future voters to “take that megaphone to Canberra.”
“If the election is close, she could hold the balance of power and be one of the most powerful voices in Canberra,” her campaign website says.
-Either way, I’ll be the loudest.
Ms Nolan came under fire in 2022 when a video emerged of her reading an opinion piece originally published in the Byron Shire Echo in 2011.
She was talking about the frustrations of explaining to her teenage daughter the need to balance fun and responsibility, when she said that Adolf Hitler “had fun.”
“Look at Hitler. He was having fun. He did what he wanted,” he said in the video.

‘Just ask six million Jews what they think about that now and you still won’t have your dose of sociopathy: they just can’t do it, it’s unethical.’
Despite calls for her support to be withdrawn, Greens leader Adam Bandt said at the time that she would make a great MP for Richmond and said she had apologised.
“Mandy has a strong track record of fighting anti-Semitism and fascism, and has apologised for any distress caused by her comments,” he said in 2022.
In a podcast with comedian Wil Anderson in 2023, he jokingly thanked legendary Australian cricketer Shane Warne for suffering a fatal heart attack in Thailand, making light of his comments about Hitler.
Labor won the Richmond seat at the last election with 58.2 per cent to the Nationals’ 41.8 per cent on a two-party preference basis.
But Ms Nolan won strong support in early preferences, with 25.3 per cent of the vote, compared to 28.8 per cent for Labour’s Justine Elliott, meaning she could be a real threat in the seat.
