Greece and Georgia’s Euro 2024 qualifier descends into anarchy with mass melee after challenge on Premier League target Kvicha Kvaratskhelia… as a substitute goalkeeper and coaching staff are sent off!

The Euro 2024 qualifying match between Georgia and Greece erupted into chaos with a fight at half-time.

The red mist descended as Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Petros Mantalos clashed, the latter having very actively participated in a challenge.

Soon dozens of players and coaches were involved in the brawl and Georgia’s substitute goalkeeper, Giorgi Loria, was sent off along with a member of Greece’s backline team.

Kvaratskhelia had previously received treatment for a facial injury after fighting for the ball with Kostas Tsimikas.

The match was 0-0 at half-time, with both teams looking to book a place in June’s championship in Germany.

Georgia had never been to a major tournament before, so this match against Greece was a chance to make history for them.

Kvaratskhelia has been on the radar of big European clubs after his surprising development at Napoli.

Last year he helped them to their first Serie A title and the Champions League quarter-finals with 17 goals and 14 assists.

This time he is having a quieter campaign, in line with Napoli’s drop in quality, but he has still scored 10 goals and created another six.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle have all been linked with him to some extent, from the level of ‘keeping an eye on him’ to launching offers.

Newcastle reportedly had an £82million swoop for him turned down last summer, with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis making a tough deal.
