Spencer Matthews was crowned Star Baker during Sunday’s first episode of The Great Celebrity Bake Off after impressing with her artistic skills.

Hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding will welcome 20 stars to the marquee over the next few weeks in aid of Stand Up To Cancer, where their efforts will be judged by Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith.

At the start of the Munya Chawawa special, Paloma Faith, Jodie Whittaker and Spencer went head-to-head, leaving the judges largely unimpressed with their ‘terrible’ creations.

However, the TV personality, 35, managed to win the vote with her pickled biscuit Showstopper, complete with decorative details.

During the episode, the Signature Challenge saw contestants make cake pops, while Technical tasked them with creating a batch of four identical pretzels.

Finally, for the Showstopper, the baker had to impress the judges with a giant biscuit portrait of Paul and Prue’s faces.

Contestants were first tasked with making cake pops, with Jodie’s sunshine-themed bake praised by the judges.

Paloma chose to make a whimsical poo emoji-shaped cake pop, flavored with chocolate and caramel.

“It’s a little grainy, but I like the taste,” Paul said of the singer’s sweet treats.

Elsewhere, Spencer created red velvet cake pops, while Munja’s daring Ed Sheeran-shaped pastries failed to impress after he presented them to the judges “raw”.

Next, the celebrities were tasked with performing a technical challenge, a batch of four identical pretzels served with a red Leicester cheese sauce – to be judged blind.

Ranking the pastries from worst to best, Paloma came last, with Paul commenting: “I’m not sure what they are, they’re just rolls.”

Like Paloma, Jodie also struggled to get her form right, landing her in third place, while Spencer came second after the judges praised his ‘taste’.

Paul and Prue were impressed with Munya’s pretzels after he ‘redeemed himself’.

“They’re all terrible,” Paul remarked after the celebrities presented their first two baked goods.

For their final task, the contestants had three hours to construct a giant biscuit portrait of the judges’ faces.

Prue said: ‘Hopefully they can shave 50 years off my face. I hope to be completely surprised.’

Munya set out to make a chilli and coco biscuit with the judges’ faces formed from buttercream.

Jodie decided to make a giant custard surrounded by icy party rings, while Spencer chose to make a giant Jekyll and Hyde sandwich cookie.

Paloma chose to make a simple chocolate cake so she could ‘focus on perfecting the judges’ faces.’

Comedian Munya suffered a disaster when he burnt his crackers while Jodie struggled with her artistic skills.

Paloma wowed the judges by taking ’20 years off’ Prue and making Paul ‘look like Zeus’, although her cookie wasn’t as impressive.

The judges praised Munya’s biscuit aroma but questioned his portraits, while Jodie’s custard deserved a similar response as she also struggled to decorate her baked goods.

Prue praised Spencer’s clever use of his pickled biscuit to pay tribute to Stand Up To Cancer and hailed his ‘enormous’ painting skills.

“That winner is Paloma, no it’s not,” Noel joked before announcing Spencer the winner.

“He won Star Baker because he actually got better and better, even though Jodie was a close second,” Paul said.

Mel B, Oti Mabuse, Danny Dyer and Rhod Gilbert are among the stars taking part in Celebrity Great British Bake Off.

Comedian Rhod, 55, was diagnosed with head and neck cancer after finding a lump in April 2022. In October, he received his first clear scan.
