GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING: Disgusting moment Alone Australia contestant beats possum to death in New Zealand desert

An Alone Australia contestant became the first in the 2024 season to acquire red meat after catching a possum and beating it to death on the seventh night of the competition.

In the grueling show, 10 survivors are dumped in the wilderness of New Zealand’s South Island, where they must survive their competition for a chance to win $250,000.

On Wednesday night’s episode, personal trainer Andeas, 42, was sitting by his campfire when he heard a sound in the bush.

Silently, he headed into the desert to investigate, armed only with his shovel, before finding his prey and killing the animal.

‘Oh shit, I got it. I’ve got food,’ the New South Wales contestant said, before turning his camera around to show the little marsupial’s body.

On Wednesday night’s episode, the personal trainer was sitting by his campfire when he heard a sound in the bush. Silently, he went into the desert to investigate, armed only with his shovel, before finding his prey and killing the animal.

By obtaining a common possum, Andreas is the first contestant to obtain red meat in the competition, while the others have relied on fish or berries for sustenance.

“It’s my first possum,” the Swedish-Australian participant announced. “I never thought I’d catch my first possum with a shovel.”

Andreas then hung the animal and skinned it so he could cook and store the meat, which he believes will last a few days.

Then he returned to his campfire and ate some possum meat.

After hearing a sound in the bush, Andreas investigates, but is armed only with his shovel because the program’s rules prohibit hunting with a bow at night. Andreas can be heard running towards his prey and breathing heavily as he punches the animal.

“The crispy skin on the outside is divine,” he says with his mouth full.

Meanwhile, Jason, a 36-year-old youth worker, has not had so much luck getting food and says his hunger has gone beyond pain and turned into simply feeling weak.

‘Everything hurts, everything hurts. She’s past the point of being hungry. He’s very weak and exhausted… I really think I’m struggling in terms of controlling things,” he said.

Andreas then skewers the animal and skins it so he can cook and store the meat, which he believes will last a few days. He then returns to his campfire and eats some possum meat that night.

Elsewhere in the episode, Suzan reports that she had “diarrhea all night and has no energy.”

The wilderness adventure guide, 54, speculates that the berries she foraged made her sick.

“I probably shouldn’t have eaten those miro berries straight off the forest floor,” he said, before complaining of a rapid heart rate.

Eight contestants remain on the hit survival show after Mike, 60, and Barkandji woman Leanne, 41, bowed out in the second episode.

The first season of Alone Australia made headlines last year after becoming SBS’s most-watched original series.

Based on an American format, the Australian version, whose first season was filmed in Tasmania, garnered more than a million viewers in half of its 11 episodes.

In the season one finale, Gina Chick was crowned the series winner after braving the elements to survive in the grueling wilderness for 67 days.

Only Australia is currently available to stream exclusively on SBS on Demand.
