July 11, 2019: Lori Vallow’s husband, Charles Vallow, was murdered by her brother, Alex Cox, in Arizona. Police initially ruled Alex had acted in self-defense but reopened the case months after the children were reported missing.
August 2019: Laurie moves her children JJ and Tayle to Rexburg, Idaho, near where her future husband, Chad Dibble, lives with his wife, Tammy.
September 8, 2019: Tylee is last seen alive during a trip to Yellowstone National Park with Lori, JJ, and Alex. In the following weeks, Lori told People her daughter was attending Brigham Young University’s Idaho campus.
September 23, 2019: JJ was last seen at his school in Rexburg. Laurie emails the school the next day claiming to be moving her family to California for a new job.
October 2, 2019: Brandon Boudreau, the ex-husband of Laurie’s niece Melanie Pawlowski, has been targeted in a drive-by shooting in Arizona. Police identified the vehicle carrying the shooter as a Jeep registered to Charles Vallow, Lowery’s late husband.
October 19, 2019: Chad’s wife Tammy, 49, dies at their home in Idaho. An obituary states that she died peacefully in her sleep. Chad refused an autopsy and was recorded as dead from natural causes.
October 25, 2019: A friend of Tylee’s gets a mysterious “I miss you” text from her phone but says it doesn’t sound like a teenager.
November 5, 2019: Laurie and Chad tie the knot on a beach in Kauai. Receipts indicate that Laurie purchased her wedding ring on Amazon approximately three weeks before Tammy’s death.
November 26, 2019: Out-of-state relatives require the Idaho Police to take a JJ Welfare Check. Laurie and Chad claim that he is in Arizona with his relatives and ask their friend Melanie Gibb to lie and say she took the boy there for Thanksgiving. The police soon learn that no one has seen JJ or Tylee since September.
November 27, 2019: The police execute a search warrant involving the children at Laurie’s house and discover that she and Chad ran away from Idaho.
December 11, 2019: Tammy’s body is exhumed from a cemetery in Utah and her death is reclassified as suspicious.
December 12, 2019: Laurie’s brother, Alex Cox, was found dead in the bathroom of his Arizona home. Months later, an autopsy determined that he had died of natural causes while having an overdose of Narcan in his system.
December 21, 2019: Rexburg Police release their first press release about JJ and Tylee, revealing that they believe their disappearance may be related to Tammy’s death and are asking the public for information.
December 24, 2019: Lori and Chad release a statement through their attorney saying they love their son and daughter and look forward to addressing the “allegations once they are beyond speculation and rumour.”
December 30, 2019: Police accuse Laurie and Chad of lying to investigators and say they believe the couple knows where the children are or what happened to them.
January 3, 2020: Police search Chad’s home in Salem and remove 43 items, including tech devices and magazines. They also comb parts of the snow-covered yard using rakes and metal detectors.
January 26, 2020: Laurie and Chad are seen for the first time in months while the police serve them with two search warrants on Kauai. Lowery also received a court order to turn the children over to authorities in Idaho within five days. The media contacts the couple as the officers present the documents and refuse to say anything about the children.
January 30, 2020: Laurie missed the court deadline to turn the children over to Idaho authorities.
February 20, 2020: Lowry was arrested on Kauai and charged with two felony counts of desertion and failure to support dependent children, one misdemeanor each for resisting and obstructing an officer, solicitation of a crime, and contempt of court.
March 5, 2020: Laurie was extradited to Idaho, where she is being held on $1 million bond at the Madison County Jail.

June 9, 2020: Police search Chad’s home in Salem for the second time and discover human remains in the backyard. Chad is in police custody and has been charged with destroying or concealing evidence.
May 25, 2021: Laurie and Chad are charged with first degree murder in the children’s deaths. Chad is also charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife, Tammy.
May 27, 2021: Laurie is deemed ineligible to stand trial for murder in the state of Idaho.
August 5, 2021: The prosecution announces that it will seek the death penalty in Chad.
April 11, 2022: Lori restore efficiency. Criminal proceedings were ordered to continue against her in Idaho.
