Gran TurismoNeill Blomkamp’s upcoming feature film adaptation of the best-selling PlayStation video game captures “all the exciting aspects of car racing and the game,” enthused Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, as he introduced well-received footage from the upcoming film.
The August 11 release from Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions is based on the story of Jann Mardenborough, a Gran Turismo teen whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become a true professional racing driver.
Cast members David Harbor and Orlando Bloom were on hand to help present the spectacular visuals.
Harbor read a clumsy line from his script and laughed out loud when he replied, “The Writer’s Strike. I love Chat GPT.”
Bloom noted playing Danny, the market leader at Nissan who convinces PlayStation to take on the Gran Turismo challenge that is central to the film, revealing “how being good at a game can completely change your life.”
Sony also organized a presentation about Gran Turismo‘s cinematography, last week at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. DP Jacques Jouffret said he chose to shoot the film with Sony’s Venice 2 cameras, using the Rialto Expansion System which effectively detaches the sensor from the camera body. This allowed the filmmakers to fit multiple cameras into the very tight spaces inside the cars, just like the filmmakers did Top gun: Maverick used this system to put these cameras in fighter jets.
Gran Turismowhich opens August 11, also stars Archie Madekwe as Mardenborough, Djimon Hounsou, Darren Barnett, Daniel Puig, Josha Stradowski, Thomas Kretschmann and Geri Halliwell-Horner.
