Google has announced that it has begun experimenting with a feature that will block users with YouTube ad blocking software.
He was the first to notice it Reddit user Sazk100, who posted a screenshot a few days ago of a pop-up he received on YouTube indicating that ad blockers are no longer allowed on YouTube. The pop-up indicates that those using an ad blocker will only be allowed to view videos on the platform if they have enabled ads on YouTube or subscribed to YouTube Premium, which provides the ability to download videos as well as remove ads.
When contacted by IGN, a Google spokesperson replied that it was a “little experiment.”
They emailed back, “We’re running a small experiment globally that urges viewers with adblockers to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium. Adblock revelations are nothing new, and other publishers regularly ask viewers to disable adblockers.” ads”.
A YouTuber also confirmed to a moderator on the YouTube subreddit page that the feature is just an “experiment” that the team is currently working on.
