Google introduced a built-in scanner for it Pixel devices inside Android 13. With this tool, Pixel users don’t need to download a separate app to scan QR codes. This tool is reportedly not working for some users. According to a report from 9to5Google, threads on Google’s support forums, as well as on Reddit, note that some Pixel owners were unable to use the QR code scanner tile in Quick Settings over the past week. The report states that the problem appears to be affecting a few models, mainly including Pixel 5, Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5G units.
How users have been affected
Pixel users have reported that the tool works when the tile is tapped, but the camera does not open. This causes the scanner to stop working and only display a blank screen. However, the camera works fine in other apps.
What is causing the problem
The report states that the recent updates may be the reason for this bug. Google is reportedly aware of the outage, as a “product expert” has reportedly said the issue is being “investigated”.
However, the problem seems to affect a few models including Pixel 5, Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5G units. Some users have also suggested a workaround to fix the problem by clearing the cache data Google Play Services. This is not an ideal solution, but it reportedly solved the problem for some users.
Apart from this, users can also use first-party apps such as the Google Camera app or Google Lens. Both apps can also scan QR codes.
