On June 6, Google opened pre-orders for the $ Founder & # 39; s Edition of the Stadia cloud game service, promising those buyers the first to experience the future of gaming – and reserving a unique username. Although Stadia is now live, many buyers report that they have not received the most crucial part of the entire Stadia package: the invitation email that opens the door to actually let them in.
Many on Stadia's official Discord server perform a so-called & # 39; code check & # 39; to let others know if their codes have been sent and whether their devices have actually been sent. Others report the usernames they already wanted.
On Reddit, Google said it was investigating the problem:
We are aware that some of you who have reserved the Founder edition may not have received your invitation codes within the expected time. The Stadia team is actively investigating this problem and we will be back with an update as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.
But Google did not really address the delay in completing that investigation.
We apologize for the delayed responses. We have identified an issue where a small portion of Stadia's access codes were not sent. That has been addressed. We have continued to roll out codes in the order in which we received your pre-order. We look forward to seeing you at Stages.
And on Twitter, the official Google Stages account replied to a founder suggesting that a delay was not necessarily unexpected:
Hey founder, thanks for your tweet. Founders whose orders were sent on November 18 receive their access codes all day on November 19 and 20 – wait!
– Stages (@GoogleStadia) November 19, 2019
That's not what Google has promised – not a vague "maybe by the end of November 20". The company promised that at least the first wave of Founders could play on the first day. This is how the company satisfied early customers in a recent Reddit AMA in telling some of the other misses at the launch:
Stages IS NOT A BOX! You don't need our hardware to start playing, remember? Immediately after we have sent your order (but not earlier than 09:00 PST 11/19), we will send you an email with the invitation code. You can use it immediately to create your account and reserve your Stadia name in the Stadia app on Android or iOS. Just to be clear: the first day is a bit special, if we ship your order on 11/18, you will receive the code on 11/19. "
By the way, why does Google have to wait to send these codes until the physical devices are shipped? not at all? I thought Stadia was not a box.
For now this is just one surprise disappointment in a long series of surprise disappointments. It actually seems a bit small compared to the revelation in our review that the servers at Stadia cannot run flagship titles on 4K.
By the way, the controller clip that Stadia early adopters need to mount a phone on their game pad has now appeared on the Google site. It will not surprise you that it is not yet for sale.
