The woman died at the scene and has yet to be officially identified.

The driver of the car involved in the first accident was also seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The driver of the car that hit the woman is assisting police in their investigation.

The accident is being investigated by the major collision investigation unit.

The Monash Freeway will remain closed inbound between Heatherton Road and Stud Road.

“The delays are mounting quickly. Use the Princes Highway as an alternative through the area. Emergency services direct traffic. Give extra time,” a Vic Traffic warning read.

The investigators would like to get in touch with people who witnessed the collision or who have dashcam images to report.
