Barstool Sports golf reporter Dan Rapaport steps away from the company and his podcasts

Barstool Sports golf reporter Dan Rapaport has left the company and is parting ways with his podcast ‘Fore Play.’

This was announced in the latest episode of the show, titled ‘Goodbye Dan Rapaport’.

Rapaport posted a statement of his own on his Twitter account citing the episode in which he appeared to subtly mock owner Dave Portnoy.

“I’m beyond grateful for these past two years. What a life experience, man! Traveling the world with an amazing group of guys on a ton of golf adventures,” the statement begins.

‘I will forever be indebted to Riggs, Frankie and Trent for the opportunity and platform they gave me. And the team behind the scenes: Brendan Jones, Alex Busch, Rob White, Jared de Libero, Kyle Tims, Pilar, Allison, Live Event Lisa/the entire Barstool Classic team, Jake Bass, Noah An, you guys are the engine that keeps this thing moving.

‘I was a huge fan of Barstool and Fore Play before I joined and I’m an even bigger fan now.

‘Sometimes you just have to go with your gut and that’s where I’m at right now. As for what’s next, I’m going to take some time off to relax (and maybe work on my own game!) before diving into my next journey.

“I love golf, I’m excited to see where it goes and I remain committed to covering it in new and exciting ways. Hit it hard.”

As Rapoport explained in the episode, his contract expired at the end of last PGA Tour season and he has been considering his future.

“I have no negative emotions toward Fore Play or Barstool or any of the three beautiful faces I’m looking at,” Rapaport told his coworkers.

But in the process of saying goodbye, he seemed to make a subtle dig at how the company had changed since he joined, which could inadvertently be seen as a dig at founder Dave Portnoy.

“The company is a little bit different than when I joined,” Rapaport explained. “I think I’m a little bit different than when I joined… when I joined we were going to compete with ESPN, it was a different environment.”

Just over a year ago, Portnoy bought back the company he started for $1 after parent company PENN Entertainment decided to rebrand the former Barstool Sportsbook app to ESPN Bet and signed a deal with the global leader in sports.

According to LinkedIn, Rapaport joined Barstool Sports in August 2022 after spending time at GolfDigest and Sports Illustrated prior to that.
