Grayson Murray was honored at his home golf club in Raleigh on Sunday, as a moment of silence was held for the late golfer a week after his death by suicide.
Murray, 30, is believed to have died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning after leaving his truck running in the downstairs garage.
And on Sunday, Murray was remembered at Raleigh Country Club during the Korn Ferry Tour’s UNC Health Championship, with an honorary tee time for the local star.
According to the reporter Peter KoutroumpisMurray’s friend and former high school teammate, Carter Jenkins, tapped Murray’s bib before teeing off.
Murray had previously spoken openly about his battles with depression, anxiety and alcoholism.
Grayson Murray committed suicide last week at his home in Florida at only 30 years old.
Murray’s friend Carter Jenkins reportedly hit his bag before playing on Sunday.
Over the past year, however, he had turned things around by sobering up, requalifying for the PGA Tour and winning January’s Sony Open, his first victory in seven years.
That sentiment was shared by NBC Sports and Golf Channel reporter Todd Lewis, who watched Murray throughout his career.
“Early in his career, Grayson had a lot of demons,” Lewis said.
‘He struggled with alcoholism. He struggled with depression, he struggled with anxiety.
“He realized that it was okay to not be okay and that gave him the comfort to try to get counseling to surround him with positive people.”
Murray’s death came a day after he unexpectedly withdrew from the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas. He had told his playmates that he was not feeling well.
He was then found inside his $800,000 residence around 11 a.m. ET on Saturday, according to local police.
