Passengers at one of Australia’s major airports are experiencing delays after security protocols were activated at checkpoints.
Footage from the airport terminal on Wednesday, just before noon, showed queues forming from the security gates and stretching to the end of the terminal.
Gold Coast Airport said an incident had triggered security measures requiring passengers to be screened again.
‘Security protocols were activated at Gold Coast Airport this morning in relation to an isolated incident which involved a requirement to re-screen passengers on board a flight. “As a result, operational delays occurred,” a spokesperson said.
‘Gold Coast Airport is working with its airline partners to manage the impact on customers. Operations have resumed, but there will be some flight delays as a result.

Gold Coast Airport is one of the busiest in the country, serving more than 6 million domestic and international passengers a year.
“We thank passengers for their patience during this time and will endeavor to get them on their way as soon as possible.”
Initially, passengers had assumed that a computer malfunction was behind the chaos in the control area.
‘Well, this is the first time. I’ve never had an IT security failure before! “This is Gold Coast Airport… the queue is getting longer by the minute,” said one passenger.
