In 2017, Gok reflected on the dark times in his youth, speaking of his struggles with both obesity and anorexia before on This Morning.

The fashion guru explained that his troubles started when he moved to London just a stone’s throw of 9 p.m. – with the pressure to want to look like his fellow drama students, losing more than half his body weight in just eight months.

The TV personality explained that his problems with food first stemmed from the fact that his family owned a Chinese restaurant in Leicester, where he had his first job.

Discussing the time that saw him pile up in high school, he revealed, “We loved our food. We had a restaurant, food was the epicenter of life.

He admitted that they were unaware of his appearance and continued: ‘We were fine, it was the others who had a problem with how we looked.

“It wasn’t until I was 21 years old and moved to London to attend drama school that I saw people look very different.”

While this prompted the presenter to shed the pounds, Gok then went too far in the other direction – developing anorexia while in college.

Revealing the dramatic effects of his condition, he shocked viewers by admitting, ‘I started dieting and lost 11 stones in eight months. I had a very serious eating disorder. ‘

However, when asked if he felt like he had reinvented himself by losing weight, Gok admitted that he was still the same person on the inside – and that he remained shy throughout his career.

He continued: ‘I reinvented myself. But I feel like I’m still that fat kid who would sit in the room and not want to be the center of attention. I am very shy deep down.

“But I’ve had great experiences in my life, and I feel like my life has only just begun.”

Gok first started talking about his anorexia in 2015, saying at the time that it was something he struggled with every day.

In his autobiography, he explained how he would survive for weeks if he noted only fruit and honey for weeks, and used up to 50 laxatives a day to slim down.

But after slowly recovering with the help of his family, the star later regained his confidence and moved on to the role of host on How To Look Good Naked.
