Gogglebox viewers left in HYSTERICS after stars said they didn’t know who Charles Dickens was

Date:

Gogglebox viewers were left in hysterics Friday after two of the show’s favorite stars said they didn’t know who Charles Dickens was.

The famous author who wrote Olive Twist grew up during the episode where couples watch a selection of TV weeks.

During the episode, Abby Lane turned to her friend Georgia Bell and asked, “Do you know who Charles Dickens is?”

“Am the hell me” exclaims Georgia, which Abby displays, “I think he’s writing a book called Twit and T****.”

The duo seemed completely confused by the exchange and then continued trying to figure out who actually wrote the crudely titled novel.

Race to Twitter One fan wrote: “They don’t know who Charles Dickens is…??!”.

While the second said: ‘I am sorry you cannot live in England and have not heard of Charles Dickens. (Oliver) Twist is a school staple. 5 different versions of Christmas Carol are available each year. What school did these girls go to? ‘.

With a third commenting: “The innocence of youth, they make me laugh” and a fourth saying, “I can’t cope.”

while another bemoaned: “I am in despair—did no one know Charles Dickens, let alone read his books.”

While another joked: “They probably think Charles Dickens is a porn star.”

The author was born in 1812 and wrote a whole host of classic stories including Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol. He died in 1870 at the age of 58.

It comes after disappointed viewers of the latest adaptation of Great Expectations said they had to “switch” when watching the first episode of the BBC1 series last month.

Those who followed the series based on the 1861 novel complained that it was “too dark”, too much swearing and “unrecognizable” from the original tale.

The novel by Peaky Blinders creator Stephen has been given a new twist, but those watching this version at home weren’t impressed.

The series stars Olivia Colman as Miss Havisham – who is portrayed as an opium addict – while Fionn Whitehead plays Pip, Shalom Bronn-Franklin as Estella, Ashley Thomas as Mr. Jaggers and Johnny Harris as Magwitch.

“#GreatExpectations #Too vague, so miserable, and so unrecognizable,” someone wrote on Twitter in reaction after the first installment.

Another said: ‘Why does the BBC have to constantly include the ‘f’ word even in a Dickens story? #Great Expectations.’

A third said: ‘That whirring voice is Charles Dickens spinning in his grave. WTF BBC? #GreatExpectations.’

Great Expectations is the second adaptation of Dickens penned by Stephen, after the successful limited series A Christmas Carol.

Author Charles first published the work in a series of weekly chapters beginning in December 1860, before it was later published as a novel.

His famous novel follows the story of Pip who lives with his sister, Mrs. Jo Gargery, and her husband, the blacksmith, Jo.

A bitter Miss Havisham orchestrates a meeting between young Pip and Estella with the goal of making him fall in love with her so that she can break his heart.

Actress Shalom plays the mysterious Estella who becomes Pip’s obsession.

Stephen adapted Dickens’ A Christmas Carol for the BBC in 2019, starring Guy Pearce as Scrooge.
