Darren Lockyer made the famous switch from fullback to five-eighth in his stellar NRL career, and has now been able to move to one of Brisbane’s most sought-after suburbs after a $6 million property windfall.
Brisbane greats Broncos, Maroons and Kangaroos have secured a stately six-bedroom Queenslander in the posh suburb of New Farm just weeks after selling their previous home for almost six times what they paid for it.
Lockyer is one of the most famous faces to ever grace the Broncos’ Red Hill training base and Suncorp Stadium (Lang Park to locals) and bought his former family home in the nearby suburb of Paddington.
Lockyer and his wife Loren paid $1.125 million for the property in 2012 and sold it for about $6.5 million this year.
“The buyer and seller are very happy,” Wakely Properties principal Ben Wakely said at the time.
‘Through my own process of searching for a similar property, I learned that there aren’t many around and that there are a number of people looking for finished homes and on larger blocks.
“Even though (the house) is a little older, it would cost a lot more to replace.”
Now, the Hall of Famer has been able to splash out on a $5 million luxury property in New Farm, along the Brisbane River, where he will continue to raise his four children.

The couple purchased this luxurious Queenslander in the sought-after suburb of New Farm for just over $5 million.
The new property (pictured) comes after the Lockyers sold their Paddington home for around $6.5 million – almost six times what they paid for it.
New Farm is one of Brisbane’s most boutique suburbs, with a median house price of $2.6 million and unit price of $815,000, reflecting significant growth in recent years.
The area is highly sought after for its vibrant lifestyle and proximity to the city, attracting professionals and wealthy residents.
Properties in New Farm range from historic Queenslanders to modern apartments, offering diverse living options.
The Lockyers have taken over the suburb’s most desirable properties, fusing the best elements of the historic Queenslander that was originally built in 1920 with modern amenities and entertainment spaces.
The New Farm property opens up to allow fresh air and sunlight into most rooms, including the ground floor living room overlooking the pool.
While the property is classic 1920s Queensland, it has many modern amenities, including this luxury kitchen.
The Lockyers were able to buy their dream home in New Farm and still have around 1.5 million in reserve from the sale of their former property.
The property had been listed by Place New Farm agents Aaron Woolard and Flyn Park in May and billed as “one of Brisbane’s finest residences”.
The home is located between two parks and also features a resort-style pool and pool house.
It also features numerous open plan living spaces and a spacious terrace to capture the afternoon breezes overlooking the pool.
Additionally, its location puts Lockyer’s within walking distance of the New Farm and Sydney St ferry terminals, New Farm Park and a host of boutique cafes and restaurants.
And he will be left with around $1.5 million in change from the sale of his Paddington property, which he will reportedly reinvest in his business ventures.
