Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid jumped in defense of her co-host Ranvir Singh on Wednesday after her moves on Strictly Dome Dancing were labeled ‘terrible’.
Ranvir, who took part in Strictly late last year, read from the prepared script as he introduced the show’s judges Craig Revel Horwood, and was surprised by a phrase that quoted him as a less than flattering assessment of her dancing.
Ranvir, 43, read the line-up and said, “And the last time it was his turn, he called me” awful “… I can’t believe you’re making me read this!

Sour-tongued Judge Craig, although he was actually nice to me behind the scenes, is here to reveal what we expect from Strictly this year. The tours are back again this year, which is exciting! ‘
When the cameras returned to the studio, a visibly bewildered Ranvir asked Susanna, 50, “He didn’t call me terrible, is he Susanna?”
Susanna replied, ‘He didn’t! I don’t know who wrote that – that’s very naughty! Because I think what he said was you had a hard time with the jive. But your ballroom dancing was a pure dream – and your jive was full of fun and gusto! ‘
Ranvir took it on the run and joked, ‘That’s what you’re saying – he didn’t say that, did he? I mean, I haven’t spoken to him since then, so we’ll see. That will be fun! ‘
Unflattering: Ranvir introduced the show’s judges Craig Revel Horwood, and was surprised by a phrase that quoted him as a less-than-flattering assessment of her dancing
When Craig, 56, arrived on the show, Ranvir joked about the upcoming Strictly tours: ‘Craig will be disappointed I’m not there. I’m sure you’re extremely disappointed not to see my awful jive again, aren’t you Craig? ‘
Craig replied, ‘No, I was really looking forward to seeing you one of the best Argentinian tangos I think I’ve ever seen – something we’d love on tour, are you kidding? You are great, by the way. I thought you were fantastic on the show – brilliant! ‘
Craig, however, noted Ranvir’s moves ‘horribly’ when he appeared on GMB in December, shortly after she narrowly missed a place in the final with her professional partner Giovanni Pernice.
Discussing winner Bill Bailey’s success on the show, Craig said, ‘He really works hours and hours to perfect it, and that’s where he’s brilliant.
Jive speaking: Ranvir and her professional partner Giovanni Pernice were Strictly eliminated a week before the final after her jive got low scores from the judges
“And he got his hand, his dance hand, in any style and you saw last Saturday, Ranvir and that awful jive she did – it wasn’t right at all.”
The recently departed host Piers then intervened: ‘Okay, okay! Okay, Ebeneezer Scrooge, you can’t come on Good Morning Britain and wreck ours. ‘
Susanna also defended her at the time, adding, ‘You know what, to the untrained eye she looks fantastic in jive. I do not know what you’re talking about! ‘
In his signature cheeky style, Craig said, “Well, she had a great smile through it, honey.”
During his last interview on Wednesday morning, Craig discussed upcoming Strictly tours, after lockdown rules were virtually eliminated on June 21.
Reassurance: When the cameras returned to the studio, a visibly stunned Ranvir asked fellow presenter Susanna, “He didn’t call me terrible, did he, Susanna?”
He said, ‘Theaters have been closed for over a year now – the whole industry let alone restaurants, bars surround them and really depend heavily on them.’
Craig discussed reports that judges Bruno Tonioli and Motsi Mabuse may not return to the show, thanks to other projects.
He said, ‘We hope Bruno comes back – we really want him on the chair, whether he stays in the chair or not, he generally jumps up and down like a yo-yo.
“We want him back, but if he can’t come back, we’ll do what we did last time – just do the live stream through the studio.”
He focused on Motsi and continued, ‘I think she would be crazy doing a German tour instead of Strictly. I take Saturdays off to do panto, so as long as she can get there safely for Saturday, she’ll be fine! ‘
Pure dream: Susanna said, ‘I think what he said was you were having a hard time with the jive. But your ballroom dancing was a pure dream – and your jive was full of fun and gusto! ‘
On the return of the show, he continued: ‘I’m really looking forward to it. The BBC has done a great job – there are protocols for every situation.
‘You get Strictly and a much fuller version. Last year we had to isolate ourselves in time for the start, so it was a month later, this year it is the full version. ‘
He also pointed out the possibility that another same-sex couple might compete in the ballroom, following in the footsteps of last year’s pioneering partners Nicola Adams and professional dancer Katya Jones.
“I’d really like to see a male or another girl,” Craig said. ‘I don’t mind if there is only dancing together. We might even see them on the Strictly tour. Maybe we’ll get to see two more dancers there! ‘
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am and catch up on ITV Hub.
Scores: Before her last week on Strictly, Ranvir consistently got high scores from judges
