Alex Beresford has revealed he has quit social media amid ‘relentless racist abuse’ as a result of his on-air feud with former Good Morning Britain co-star Piers Morgan.
55-year-old Morgan left ITV’s GMB after saying he ‘didn’t believe a word’ of Meghan Markle’s story of experiencing racism and other charges against the royal family from her husband, Prince Harry, during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
And after Morgan’s last day on the show saw him storm off the set after a dramatic confirmation with Beresford, 40, the weather forecaster has revealed that the racism he’s endured online since defending Meghan has forced him to step away.

He wrote for The Telegraph: ‘I did not announce it (as former Arsenal player Thierry Henry did this week when he publicly quit social media in response to anonymous racist bullying), but I have been forced to distance myself from Twitter and Facebook itself, because it became too much. ‘
“I am a strong person, but I am not made of steel,” he continued, adding that the messages he has received are “to a great extent the lived experience of racism in Britain.”
He added: ‘The harsh reality, however, is that social media is just a reflection of a bigger problem in society. These people are your colleagues, they are even a parent at the school gate. ‘
Last month, Piers announced that he had quit GMB after Alex disputed his comments about the Duchess of Sussex, 37, and her interview with Oprah, 67.

When Piers left the screen, Alex continued, “I’m sorry, but Piers sprays regularly and we have to sit there and listen.”
Piers, who declined to apologize, later announced his resignation and tweeted his thanks to the GMB team, praising them for their “ hard work and dedication ” that led to them beating their main breakfast television rival.

And the presenter shared his own reflections on the events of that fateful week in a piece for last weekend’s Mail On Sunday.
Piers called Alex “ an occasional replacement weather forecaster for GMB ” and “ tense ” in the telling report, adding that the presenter has not messaged him since his departure, unlike others on the show.
Reflecting on their now infamous encounter at GMB, which ended with Piers leaving the studio, Piers said he wouldn’t sit there and get ‘beaten’ by one of his own team.
He wrote: ‘I don’t mind outside guys trying to make a name for themselves by slapping me like this, but I wouldn’t just sit there and take over any of my own team, especially from someone I am gone out of my way to help when he asks me for advice on his career.
Intense: Alex called Piers’ decision to leave the studio after their meeting ‘pathetic’ and ‘absolutely devilish behavior’
Realizing that I might say something I would regret, I decided to leave the studio to cool off.

‘He has the ability to come in here and talk from a position he doesn’t quite understand …’ ‘
Piers continued, “I heard nothing more of his rant when I was out the door and on my way to my dressing room.
I knew it didn’t look right, the big snowflake basher running away from the showdown. And on reflection, I shouldn’t have done it. But in the heat of battle, in my rather tense frame of mind, this seemed like the less worst option. ‘
