Gloria Hunniford has revealed that her grandson will marry in the same church as her late daughter Caron Keating.

Caron was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 34 years old and died from the disease in 2004, aged 41, after a seven-year fight.

And now Charlie, grandson of Loose Women star Gloria, 29, will have a piece of his late mother with him when he gets married – with the ceremony taking place at the same venue.

Charlie was just nine years old and his younger brother Gabriel was seven when Caron sadly died leaving behind her husband Russ Lindsay, whom she married in 1991.

Gloria, 84, told Bella magazine: “We talk about her all the time and Charlie has decided she wants to get married in the church her mother was married in.

‘That will happen at the end of this year, which I think is wonderful. He made me cry when he told me. Charlie’s wedding will be a wonderful big family event.

Caron is buried in the churchyard of St Peter’s Church in Hever, Kent, and the family gathered there on April 13 to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

And he added about his pain: “Losing a child is, in my opinion, the worst thing that can happen to you.” She was completely and utterly devastated and there was a moment when I thought, ‘This might end me too.’

Gloria fought back tears as she spoke about her late daughter Caron on Loose Women in 2021.

He talked about how he tries to “keep her alive in spirit” on her birthday and other milestones for the sake of Caron’s children, Charlie and Gabriel.

During a discussion about coping with life’s milestones after losing a loved one, Gloria said, “The first [milestone] It’s agonizing.

“When we lost Caron, and her anniversary was last week, I was determined in my head that her children, Charlie and Gabriel, would commemorate occasions like Mother’s Day, Christmas or her birthday.

“But on the date of his passing I try to keep things pretty light.”

She went on to explain how the balloons left over from her 80th birthday helped commemorate the special occasion.

She said, ‘The ’80 balloon’ was too big, so I thought I’d leave it to Caron.

“So when the kids were there we said ‘let’s send them to mom’ and we let them go and they went up so high because they were full of helium.

“So we had fun times: we know how to tie balloons to the tombstone, send rockets with little messages inside…”

And he added: “I always think of the phrase ‘people never die if they live from the lips of the living.’

‘And that’s why I always like to talk about Caron to keep her alive in spirit and for her two children.

“For me it is very important that they learn, because now they are 20 years old and I think that parents, in my case grandparents, have to be reminded that they should think about these days.”

Caron was a television presenter who joined the Blue Peter team in the 1980s.

Gloria created the Caron Keating Foundation after the death of her daughter.

She previously spoke about how Caron’s positive attitude had helped her loved ones cope with the devastating diagnosis.

Gloria said: ‘Caron never talked about losing his battle, he just talked about life. His entire attitude toward cancer was positive. “We all took advantage of that and she became the teacher.”

He went on to say that at times he almost felt like “nothing was happening” as his life was filled with so much fun.

Statistics show that only 4 percent of the 55,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each year are under 40 years old.
