Global billionaire population reaches a record of 2,816, with a net worth of $ 11.2 BILLION

The number of billionaires in the world has reached a record of 2,816 and is worth a total of $ 11.2 trillion – more than the GDP of any country except the US and China.

This year there are 346 additional people on the list – including MacKenzie Bezos after her divorce last year from the Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, 56, who retained the title of the world’s richest man.

The total wealth of the billionaires – based on their assets on January 31 this year – increased by 16 percent last year, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2020 released Wednesday.

There were 479 new billionaires this year, while 130 were deposed, 16 of whom died.

The increase is largely due to the boom in the technology industry and the rising stock markets.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, 35, with $ 84 billion, Google founders Sergey Brin, 46, with $ 68 billion, and Larry Page, 46, with $ 67 billion, and Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer, 63, with $ 67 billion are all in the top ten.

China, Hong Kong and Taiwan created 182 new billionaires with fortunes made in drugs and online entertainment after a mini boom of the coronavirus outbreak.

The US created 59 new billionaires.

China and the US have more than half of all global billionaires, followed by India, Germany and the UK, which each have more than 100 billionaires.

Seven of the top 10 billionaires are Americans and none of them are Chinese. Jack Ma, the richest man in China with $ 45 billion, is in 21st place.

The couple completed their divorce in July last year for a settlement of $ 38 billion. Under the agreement, MacKenzie received approximately 19.7 million Amazon.com shares, giving it a 4 percent stake in the company that was valued at $ 38.3 billion at the time.

Bill Gates, 64 and Warren Buffett, 89, occupy third and fourth place on the list, both with assets of more than $ 100 billion.

Technology was the primary source of wealth for 12.7% of the billionaires, followed by real estate (9.6%), production (8.7%) and investment (8.6%).

Chinese stock markets rose 14% compared to January 2019, despite the outbreak of the corona virus that caused a slump on the first day of the Chinese New Year.

Over the same period, the Nasdaq increased by 26% and Indian stock markets increased by 15%, according to the report.
