Give a dog a home: Charlie the crossbreed has been at the animal shelter for 540 days with the RSPCA calling to get him a new owner

  • Hurry to adopt a dog who has been in the RSPCA shelter for 540 days
  • Charlie, 9, in shelter at Brent Knoll RSPCA, near Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset
  • Crisis in cost of living means centers are ‘filled to the brim’

A call to send home a dog who spent 540 days in a shelter has led to “many applications” from people wanting to adopt him, the RSPCA said.

Charlie, a nine-year-old crossbreed, is being looked after at Brent Knoll RSPCA, near Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset.

Andy Cook, a training and behavior consultant, said he was brought in after a change in family circumstances.

He said the cost-of-living crisis led to the centers being “filled to the brim with pets in need of adoption.”

Mr Cook said: ‘Charlie spends a lot of time with the staff and joins us during breaks… we all enjoy spending time with (him) but know in our hearts that he really needs a good home.’

“He’s so loving and affectionate and a joy to be around,” he said BBC news.

Charlie has also been “negatively affected” by an unstable environment at his previous home, according to the Weston Mercury.

He said Charlie would be suitable for an individual, a couple or a family with older children as he can be a challenge around other dogs.

“He just needs a loving home where he gets all the care and attention he deserves,” he added.

“Freeing up space will help us help more animals in need, so we’re asking anyone interested in adopting a pet to also check out the RSPCA’s Find a Pet webpage.”

Charlie is said to be very affectionate with people he knows and craves contact.

He is also described as playful – he loves squeaky toys, as well as running around and rolling on the floor with his toys.
