A 19-month-old girl died alone in her bed after her mother and father played games on their cell phones and watched television all night, a court heard.
Kiera Conroy was found lifeless the following afternoon at 3pm as her parents were getting ready to go out, having spent most of the day sleeping after going to bed at 6:30am.
Her father Michael Conroy, 27, admitted to being neglected in the Airdrie Sheriff Court, while her mother Kirsty Boyle, 24, pleaded not guilty to the same charges, which were upheld.
Kiera, who lived with her parents in the town of Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, died on December 20, 2017 – just five days before Christmas.

Conroy admitted that “she has been deliberately mistreated, neglected and exposed in a way that could cause her unnecessary suffering or damage to health.”
The charge was that in the three days before his daughter died, Conroy “was unable to provide Kiera with adequate food and fluids, left her alone and unsupervised for extended periods, and did not provide suitable living conditions.”
Conroy also admitted that his daughter was exposed to Valium pills on the street after tablets were found in her travel cot, although there was no suggestion she was taking any.
It was Miss Boyle who found her daughter’s lifeless body around 5pm as she and Conroy were getting ready to go to her father’s house. Daily record.
Miss Boyle said she and Conroy had been awake until 6:30 that morning and told police: ‘We were both shattered. We did an all nighter. It’s a bad habit.’

The couple fell asleep on the couch and didn’t wake until 3pm, with Miss Boyle saying she didn’t hear Kiera and “assuming she was asleep.”
Conroy claimed to have fed Kiera milk when she woke at night and in the morning, but prosecutors said police found no food or formula in the flat.
Boyle called 999 after finding Kiera “very pale, with a sick mouth” – and paramedics arrived to see Conroy resuscitate, but the girl could not be rescued.
Sheriff Fergus Thomson postponed sentencing until November for a criminal social work report and an assessment of electronic tagging. Conroy was released on bail.
