“At that point, I honestly saw it was a bear, but I didn’t register in my head that a bear could be a dangerous animal that could injure or kill me,” she said. “I just saw him pick up my dog and I had to do what I had to do to save her.”

She continued: “I was face to face with that bear and when I was face to face I had no time to think. My head was empty and the first thing that came to mind was to press it and I was so happy that everything went well.”

Hailey’s parents were nearby during the incident, which saw the teen run into when her dogs started barking.

“We were in the garden,” she explained. “It was just around the corner from the garden, it’s just awesome. My parents were only a few feet away from me and it all happened so fast.

‘I’m just so lucky aren’t I [the bear] focused on so many things, was so disoriented and I was rushing so fast. It happened before anyone could process anything.’

Miraculously, as a result of the encounter, the teen only ended up with a sprained finger and a scrape.

“I’m fine,” she said. “I sprained my finger pushing the bear, but it was really a comedy. You push a bear, get close to it and come out on your own… I’m so thankful we got out unharmed.”

Hailey’s mom Citlally says she had “no idea what was happening around the corner” and after she had a “panic attack,” her daughter and dogs — Sparkles, Valentina, and TJ — were unharmed.

“I found out when we finally got into the house and she said the bear almost took Valentina and she said, ‘I pushed him.’

“After my panic attack I watched the video, it was just incredible and I was just in tears.”

When asked if she was angry that her daughter had something too risky, Citlally said, “I don’t think I was angry.

“I was very thankful she was okay and I just wanted to hug her. I think I went up to her room about 50 times during the night to give her a hug.”

She added: “I still get a knot in my throat every time I look at it, I see how close she was to death and it was so scary.”
