A 17-year-old girl died after being allegedly raped by a gang and set on fire by her boyfriend and his friends.
The teenager suffered 90 percent burns to her body after being detained, raped, and burned on Friday in Shantirbazar, South Tripura, Eastern India.
Police say that the victim was rescued by neighbors and was taken early in the Saturday morning to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital in New Delhi, where she died of her injuries.
Neighbors claim that the girl, who cannot be named, has been held hostage by her boyfriend for more than two months, reports The Times of India.
The girl's family states that accused friend Ajoy Rudrapal, 23, set fire to the girl after offering a dowry of Rs 17,000 (£ 182) instead of the Rs 50,000 (£ 535) that his family had demanded.

The crowd attacked the accused couple, Mr. Rudrapal was then arrested by the Shantirbazar police.
Officer Jal Singh Meena told The Times of India: & # 39; The lead suspect, Ajoy, was arrested in the hospital and later taken to Shantirbazar police station.

Ajoy Rudrapal allegedly met the victim on social media and arrived at her home to get married shortly after Diwali, at the end of October, when the couple left.
Her family claims that she was subsequently detained for ransom and raped by the accused and his friends – they had filed a police report but received no help.
The girl's mother told The Times of India: & # 39; On Friday evening we paid her (Mr. Rudrapal's mother) Rs 17,000 at ISBT Chandrapur, but she was not happy and warned us to pay the full amount as we wanted to get the girl back.
& # 39; In the meantime, we got to know their address and we intended to reach them today.
& # 39; But early this morning we were told that she was set on fire and moved to the hospital.
