And Gillian Anderson, 52, and David Duchovny, 60, who played Dana Scully and Fox Mulder respectively, were once again delighted to see the viewers reunite.

The Crown actress took to Instagram to share a duo of snaps with her and her former partner in crime when he was introduced to her dog.

Gillian and David became household names in the 1990s thanks to roles as FBI Special Agents in the beloved science fiction series The X-Files.

A large number of her 1.8 million Instagram followers quickly poured through the comments section to enjoy the reunion – declaring that they were ‘bringing the band back together’.

Last year, Gillian reflected on her decision to leave Hollywood and move to London at the height of her fame.

‘I had a complicated relationship from becoming so famous so young and seeing the worst of what the industry can be. I really hated it and wanted to get away, ‘she told the Australian TV weekly.

Now that I’m older, I can put it all in perspective. The rewards I’ve been blessed with for following my instincts are many, and I’ve never gotten to the point of even considering going back to America, ”she added.

Gillian, who lived in England for years as a child, explained that she ‘always missed the UK and always knew she would end up here again’.

The Emmy winner was born in Chicago and her family later moved to Puerto Rico for 15 months and then to London.

The Sex Education star returned to the United States with her family at the age of 11 and settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
